Yet Another Overseas Jaunt-Planned, Proposed or Possibly Been Contemplated!
Speedcafe are quoting Sepang as the next international jaunt for Supercars in 2019!
Personally an event in North Korea or Guam is the go, much better publicity for Supercars. The bloke in Korea with the missile collection could give out the trophies at the end of the racing. |

As a majority of Malaysians are conversant in English it would not be unrealistic to expect Malaysian Supercar fans to visit the world's best English speaking motor racing forum to comment on this welcome news.
If not, will Supercars make available a Malaysian language commentary feed for broadcast into Malaysia? |

I suspect the country has a long-running affinity with motorsport, what with Macau and everything.

Me too!
I was this close to picking an argument for the sake of it. Facts saved the day. |

I think they are flogging a dead horse with the races overseas. Having lived in Asia for the past 26 years, mostly in Vietnam but I did spend 6 months working in Malaysia, I can safely say that Asians don't give a damn about V8 Supercars. They know very little about it and cannot "relate" to it in anyway. I have been to the Sepang Circuit and they will be battling to get many spectators as the circuit is out of KL (Not too far from the airport) and the locals probably would not pay the admission price for something they don't identify with... What is a Commodore or a Falcon?. A few years ago we got the V8's on cable TV via the ABC overseas network, some bars showed it but most expats are more into bat and ball sports here. To find like minded enthusiasts is near impossible. |

There wouldn't be a crowd but the track would suit supercars nicely. Personally I'd prefer it to stay local though.

Tony Cochrane has been hitting the airwaves this week, claiming that the overseas events were very successful financially for the teams. Which beckons the question why did they all only last a year or two? Maybe they were successful for V8SC, but perhaps not so for the promoters hence deals were never renewed. IIRC, they performed largely in front of empty stands.

They were financially successful for the teams and the catagory.
It doesn't really matter if the stands are empty, if the TV numbers are good. So if a promotor wants to pay the circus to be at their event, why not? |
