2004 Spec R8 for LMES and Le Mans
http://www.fastdetails.com/
The new rear wing not shown, from the description I think it might look like those on the DTM car with a "box" extend beyond the endplate to the endplate extension.... Why change the fender though, I don't understand.... BTW, does grandfathered MG Lola needs to have a attached fender or can it remain as it? |

See sections 3.4.1 of the '04 rule book...that's the long and short of it...if you can decipher it. But I was under the impression that LMP900s running this year would only need the 180 cm wing and reduced capacity fuel tank (80L) to be eligible. Rule 3.4.1 of the '04 LMP1/2 rule book simply limits the amount the pontoon fenders can be pinched in towards the center of the car, hence the updated Audi have a flatter look the them. Basically new cars will not be able to have pontoons that are open from above, they will have to be covered ala the Audi R8's architecture.

So which means that the MG Lola-Judd that Intersport will run in LMP-1 will have to connect its pontoon fenders to the chassis then? What of those Dallara.....

Saw this tidbit on lmsr.net. Team Goh were testing at Jerez. The wing looks like the 2003 spec without the deep end-plates. There must be a few more changes coming yet. Perhaps the Paul Ricard test will reveal the final version. Any comments?

I'm quite sure I've seen that exact picture in Autosport over a year ago. I think that's the 2002 Team Goh Audi.

I wondered about that after I had posted. That's probably the answer.

It looked like a 2000 wing because of the brake lights.

I asked Michael and it is just a Audi stock photo from last year. Not from the Jerez test.

regarding the revised pontoon-fender on the R8. I'm unsure what's going on there as I was under no impression that LMP900 cars had to comply with the bodywork regulations for '04 LMP1/2 (Art 3.4.1 a/). So the second school of thought is that the fender modification is simply to balance the span reductions effect and that area of the car (pontoon fender trailing edge) was quickest modified to acheive the needed results. I'm aware that the exit out the front diffuser is critical for diffuser performance, so therefore a reduction in the exit dimension (moving the trailing edge of the fender further rearward) would produce a result and therefore potentially rebalance the front end to meet the reductions made at the rear by the span reduction.
