Who will be compedative in 2001?
Does anyone out there think that the so called 'midfield' teams of: BAR, Williams, Jordan, Jaguar, and Renault will win races in 2001? And will any of these be title contenders. I think that Williams probably will be third again closely followed by Honda power. Will these teams close up the gap between the front runners of McLaren and Ferrari? I think that 2002 will be a season for change and probably not 2001. |

BAR will win a race for sure. With Bridgestone, Villeneuve, Reynard, Pollock, Panis, Honda, BAT money ... they have to win.
Sauber may suprise. Honestly. I am not joking. I think they'll be in with a chance. No race wins, but I am confident they could get a podium. |

Interesting
Check out autorace.com: just one year ago, Mika thought that Heinze in the Jordan will be a serious opponent to his claims for the WDC. How things have changed in such a short time.
This is what I think: Williams, provided the Michelin gets Frank's guys onto the front row, will be serious contenders for the championship. BAR, because it is more than semi factory. Jordan, because they will have a much better engine than last year. I have SOME doubts about Renault only because it's their first year back, and the Michelins are an unknown, Ford, well, who knows how the Jaguar will go! So far, only their faithful followers have high hopes, while everyone else just politely look at some other team. And now I read that Ford are thinking of buying out the Daimler (German) company from Chrysler, so who knows what Haug will think of that. I mean, Ford will effectively have two teams in F1 if that happens. (NO!! I don't mean that clapped out Ford engine in the Minardi). Sauber are doing extremely well in testing, but I really don't have a clue how well they will line up on the grid, since they don't have a factory engine. I cannot see anyone else getting anywhere above tenth place on the grid this year, let alone a podium place. AND I am predicting that it will not be Ferrari and McLaren to fill the top two spots in either competition. |
