Not another street track!!!!
I just heard on Speedvision that Cart plans on racing in downtown Denver next year. What gives?!?! I guess I all ready know what the answer is. Street races provide almost guaranteed ticket sales. Problem is they also provide guaranteed constant yellow flags. If I had my way Carts scheduale would go something like this
1. Nazareth 2. Sears Point 3. Watkins Glen 4. Mosport 5. Road Atlanta 6. Sebring 7. Germany 8. Road Atlanta 9. Austraila 10. Portland 11. Brazil 12. Great Britain 13. Laguna Seca and maybe Mid Ohio, but what do I know? After all I am just a fan. |

Personally, I'm rather happy about this as Denver is relatively close and this will be my best chance to get to a CART event. Barring any major misfortunes, I'll be there!!

Two races at Road Atlanta? CART has been reluctant to go there for one...

Well, if it increases the ticket sales in the States and gives CART a boost in the public and media's eye it has to be a good thing.
Does anyone know if it will be a new circuit layout or will it follow the track they raced on in the early 90's? Logan. |

The Denver track will be a new layout. The race will be conducted on a 1.65-mile temporary circuit on the streets adjacent to Denver’s lower downtown area. The Pepsi Center, home to the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, will serve as the focal point of the race circuit.
The old circuit circled around the Denver U.S. Mint area. Back in 90 - 91 the race had decent attendance, but the promoters went bankrupt, thus the disappearance of the event. The new event's partners include the Long Beach Grand Prix Association, led by Chris Pook, Dover Downs Entertainment Group, Kroenke Sports, the owners and operators of the Nuggets and Avalanche as well as the Pepsi Center, and Colorado businessman George Gillett. This group undoubtly is well-equipped to successfully stage and promote this race. |

But surely it can't be on safety grounds. Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca aren't the world's safest circuits!! |

Road Atlanta has been trying to get a CART date for years. CART has been reluctant to try to set foot in the southern market for some reason. The South is NASCAR country, but that hasn't stopped the IRL from drawing decent crowds in Tennessee, Richmond, and Kentucky. I personally think that CART would play well at Road Atlanta and it would be a great race.

My mistake
Sorry about that Seven. I ment Road Atlanta and Road America. Road America is by far my favorite.

You have no idea how lucky you are in the States to have street racing!!
There's no chance of having a street race in the UK because the all of the roads are in such a diabolical state!! Last edited by MGF; 4 Oct 2001 at 12:44. |

no, panoz is not hot for a cart date. he has said it's not really on his radar screen. but the real issue is price, he's not going to pay a huge fee to cart to race there. if cart lowered the price, he'd take them in a second
