Retiring (again)
Dear all
I am finally retiring from all aspects of motorsport at the end of this month. This is not a decision I have taken lightly, having been involved at all levels of the sport for the past 19 years, but my back problems have been getting worse recently and I really cannot afford to take any more time off work than is absolutely necessary. Over the years, I've seen many changes (not all of them good!) met some fantastic people (and some total oddballs!), made some wonderful friends and gained a husband! My last ever event will be the Marshal's Club Sprint at Curborough on 28 August and I intend to supply wine and cake at the end of the day. If you are available please let me know and I'll make sure your name is added to the list. For those that can't come to Curborough but may want to keep in touch I'm on Facebook. Sheila xx |

I think I've known you most of those 19 years, although haven't seen you much recently. I can say it's been a pleasure knowing you and it's a shame you have to retire. Good luck for the future.

Hi Sheila
Sorry to hear this. Glad that you are finishing with a true club event. Don't forget that you can always pass by as a spectator and say hullo. Best wishes Jim |

Hope the back improves with less weight on your shoulders. You'll be joining the ranks of the marshalling undead! Those who, like me, can no longer stand on the bank, but roam the outfield seeking a gap in the fencing to relive to days of better health!
Seriously though I'm sure you'll visit from time to time and be welcomed by those who worked with you. All the best JEP |

Hello Sheila, I also haven't see you for ages...sorry to hear that your back is giving you problems. Your input over the years has been hugely valuable. Enjoy the weekends off! xxx

Sorry to hear you have decided to retire from motorsport. I think you will miss it but then again, there are other things in life! I am down as Club Steward for your final event and look forward to bidding you well then.

Thanks for all your kind words and invitations to become a spectator! Sadly, I've never really been a spectator - I get bored too easily!
I forgot to mention - there is a Facebook group just for specialist marshals which I set up after the last training day I did. Some of the people who were there thought it might be a good idea to have somewhere to bounce ideas around or address issues they may have in private. The group is totally private and doesn't appear on your profile and no-one other than members can see any of the content. Membership is by invitation only. If anyone wants to join, please contact me via Facebook. Sheila xx Last edited by Sheila M; 5 Aug 2010 at 22:29. Reason: Added a bit |

Sheila - you can't retire, because I remember when you started (at least at the circuits) and I was "experienced" then so how old does that make me feel? (Old, by the way, especially with "my knees"). Remember the evenings with Brian Lowe - now that is something to make us all feel old!
I hope we will still see you around keeping Steve company. XXXXXXXX |

Sorry Shelagh, didn't mean to make you feel old!
How could I not remember the evenings with Brian Lowe? I have many fond memories of various nights at various drinking establishments around the country with people who were fantastic company! |

Sheila, no offence taken on the "old" front. Sign of the times, m'dear - your back and my knees
Can I have your broomstick so I can hover at the flag points? |

Sorry Shelagh - the broomstick is being retired as well! It's just as old and knackered as me - there's bits falling off everwhere and it's a bugger to start on cold damp mornings!

No you bloody well can't! Just because I'm retiring doesn't mean that you won't be watched like a hawk by some very capable people! And anyway, you should be setting an example to the youngsters!

Correction - I've retired!
I'm sorry to say that due to a communication problem I won't be at Curborough this Saturday, so apologies to those who were looking forward to cake and wine from me at the end of the meeting. To those who are going - have a great day.
