The Unwanted WSBK Assen Thread (spoilers)
This is the weekend thread for Round 9 of the World Superbike Championship, which is being held at Assen. Please use this thread to discuss anything related to the race weekend including practice, qualifying, and the race.
BTW, the thread is unwanted since our esteemed forum host (ahem) has deemed it unworthy. So I'll try and keep the party going. Last edited by jhansen; 31 Aug 2006 at 19:33. |

Ignore him and he'll go away.
In WSBK related news, Troy Bayliss will be with the boys in red till 2008. |

I stated that I will ignore WSBK this weekend . I didn't say it is unworthy or unworthy (sic, it's a joke)

I completely understood your intended humor. And indeed, I hope you understood mine. Besides, I needed to come up with a catchy thread title. Hazza is just too good in that department.
Glad to see Bayliss coming back. Now I'd just like to see some suitable factory opposition. Although, I think Haga and Toseland will be up for it this weekend. |

I hope someone kicks Bayliss's arse! I doubt it but hey. He's an arrogant twerp when he's winning... I guess it's the chip on his shoulder from his smoulderingly bad stint in MotoGP when even Charlie Chucker gave him a spanking
He's not quite at Fogerty's level yet but he has just announced he wants to out-do him so he has time yet. Hey Ducati! Put someone who can ride on the other Duke! |

Anyways, yes, Bayliss is telling them all that he'll be tough to beat here. And he's on form. FP1 top 10: 1. Troy Bayliss 1min 40.692 secs 2. Alex Barros 1min 41.277 secs 3. Noriyuki Haga 41.417 secs 4. Regis Laconi 1min 41.518 secs 5. Yukio Kagayama 1min 41.541 secs 6. Lorenzo Lanzi 1min 41.563 secs 7. Troy Corser 1min 41.594 secs 8. James Toseland 1min 41.704 secs 9. Ruben Xaus 1min 41.805 secs 10. Michel Fabrizio 1min 41.985 secs Nice to see Barros up there. But he and Haga are some ways behind. Qualifying 1 top 10: 1. Troy Bayliss 1min 39.336 secs 2. Lorenzo Lanzi 1min 39.888 secs 3. Michel Fabrizio 1min 40.171 secs 4. James Toseland 1min 40.242 secs 5. Alex Barros 1min 40.415 secs 6. Andrew Pitt R1 1min 40.474 secs 7. Yukio Kagayama 1min 40.567 secs 8. Ruben Xaus 1min 40.581 secs 9. Noriyuki Haga 1min 40.612 secs 10. Karl Muggeridge 1min 40.746 secs Geeze, Bayliss on provisional pole and half a second up on his teammate. |

What is it that they're building over part of the old track? A supermarket or something? I hope the local people are happy with themselves for what they've destroyed.
Still, the current track isn't too bad, and we should be in for a pair of good races. |

Time to replace one-eyed Lanzi with someone who can race. OK, he's Italian but that's about it. What a waste of a fine bike.... Put Fabrizio on it at worst, otherwise what about Edwards or Toseland or Hodgson again?

It could be Hodgson since the AMA Ducati team will not be racing next year.

I wouldn't mind that at all. Bayliss vs. Edwards on the Ducati would be awesome. We'll just have to see if Edwards ends up out of Moto GP or not.

I hope Edwards does go to WSBK because I hate to see him so impotent. He's a favourite of mine and he's not having a good time.

It would be 2002 all over again. Edwards vs. Bayliss. Awesome.
And WSBK needs a proper scrap. Bayliss vs. Corser? I'm sorry, but give Corser competition and he can't do it. So yes, please come back Colin after you grab a win in MotoGP! |

I read that Barros has drafted in his old race engineer. So that's good stuff. I'd like to see that team expand to two bikes next year with some factory support. But I think they need money as well. I'd like to see Honda up there though!

That was a fabulous lap from Troy, an absolute joy to watch. Poetic. Balletic.
Shame there's two races for him to do now, really. |

I just can't help feeling that Bayliss doesn't have the hunger in the wet anylonger...
Having said that it'll probably be horrbily ironic and he'll end up winning... |
