a virginal experience...

Greetings to you all! Just wanted to take this opportunity to intro myself as a new member of this killer forum. Name is Brian and I'm from New York City, although i'd much rather be elsewhere. The majority here seems to be fans of the killer tomato cars, and i must say that they are a very strong team. However, TGF is the main reason why i'm a loyal and die-hard Mclaren fan. Can't say too much about that prat running the show at Woking, though.

In any case, just wanted to greet you all. Looking forward to the chats.

Cheers,
Brian

Canadian grand prix...

BTW, anyone attending the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend? I havn't any tickets but will be going up just for the Grand Prix atmosphere! Hope to see a great race at whatever pub i can squeeze into. Anyone know of a friendly base for a Mclaren fan to camp and watch the race up in Montreal? Let me know please!

For the Canadian GP update,go over to Trackside and look under "Canadian GP" - a bunch of us will be there, and my boy Josh will be racing in the Canadian Formula Ford Pro race. (I believe there is one McLaren fan in our group.)

Welcome to the forum and kudos for picking up on the TGF thing so quickly.

Thanks for the heads up Liz, I hope to see you all there. I'll the Asian bloke covered in litter as all you Ferrari fans will be throwing whatever ****e you can at me and my Mclaren hat! See you all there!

As for JPM, you answered your own question as to why i want out of this city... no one knows F1! jk.. it's a great city, but i'd much rather be ... wherever the race is! Where in Queens are you? Also, i'll be driving up this weekend to montreal. I know it might sound strange, but if i the person i plan to go with backs out, you're more than welcomed to catch a free ride up. Otherwise, maybe we could take 2 cars (you and your mates in the other) and enjoy, what i hope will be a Mclaren 1-2 weekend! You can email me at bghaw@aol.com.

Cheers,
Brian

Welcome Brian and JPM, I'm an ex-pat New Yorker having lived on the Upper Left Side and Brooklyn Heights for years. I'm a Hakkinen and to some degree a Coulthard fan, so I'll be in my McLaren hat as well. I'll be hooking up with Liz and the gang in Montreal, after driving up on Friday. It really merits taking Monday off in order to make it back.

Oh, and Brian, you say you'd rather be elsewhere?, There is no place on earth I would rather be than New York.

Everyone seems to be against me on the NYC thing.. haha. Oh well (Shrug) Is the meeting spot at 4 by the metal statue by the casino on SAT? I'll be coming up with at least on other person. Hope to see you all there! Oh, and does anyone know of a good pub/restaurant to watch the race (since i do not have tickets)? Please let me know!

GO MCLAREN!!!!!

DOWN WITH TGF

Brian

F1ciamp... you might want to call ESPN Zone on 42nd to see if they will be broadcasting or if they know who will be. If not, i could always tape it for you and give it to you monday.

Carla: yes i know that TGF stands for "That German Focker"..err Fellow AKA MS. but thanks for helping me keep informed! DOWN WITH TGF!

JPM: I'm a great big fan of the Flying Finn and DC as well, which gives me more reason to cheer on the Woking team! I'm actually from Jersey, but most of my compadres live out in Queens. A few from Bayside, Forrest Hills, and Whitestone.

If the whole Montreal thing doesn't work out for me this weekend, let's have all the NY -ers get together for the race!

BTW, anyone have any suggestions as to a good spot to watch the race in Montreal (in a pub etc?)

it's great to finally have some F1 gurus to chat with!

JPM, we moved to Mass. in 1995, but lived on Columbia Heights between Clark and Pierrepont. I walked Montague everyday to get the train for four great years. Our Apartment overlooked the Promenade and the Harbor-it was a dream.

Prior to that I was in Morningside Heights, on and off for 15 years.

Sorry I cannot give you guys any tips on where to watch the race on TV in Montreal. I'll try djb for you, he may know a spot.

Welcome

You are welcome to the Forum!
But what a shame I don't got the opportunity to be an F1 race. When they are in Argentina (1995-98), I can't afford the money to go to the Oscar Galvez circuit to watch the race. But they only sold the tickets for all the three days.

Greetings form Sydney , Australia . Never been to NYC so can't really comment on how great it is apart from some of the most outstanding musos in the world live there!
Nice to see another member who isn't a TGF fan. As someone famous once said," Lord , I have seen the light! " ( and it isn't red tinged!)

Thanks to all for the welcome! Oh, if anyone needs ONE ticket for the Grand Prix this weekend, i know someone who is selling it for $300 USD. It is for Silver grandstand 11. I would take it, but then that means leaving my compadre all alone in an unfamiliar city... hmm...

That's a bit higher than we paid, but not much - we're in the Silver Grandstands too.

I lived in Middletown NY as a sprog and we took the bus in to New York when we wanted a bit of excitement (like trying to climb the fire escape into the Rolling Stones' hotel); had to go back and forth for work a lot when I lived in Buffalo but haven't been except to JFK once since the 1970s. I really like living in Toronto, but if I could live in any city in the world (without having to worry about affording it) that would have to be Boston. I absolutely love Boston.
