The Great ITV Cover-up!!

Have just watched ITV's coverage of the Thruxton meeting (the best meeting TV wise in my opinion), and noticed once again, that under the driver's name on the in-car shots, part of the sticker is covered by a black box, stuck on by the TV producers afterwards.

It appears that the sticker includes as advert for Green Flag, so why are ITV covering it up?

I missed the Thrxton race. I'll have to keep an eye out for them on Motors TV.

Just highlights.
TOCA won't let anyone show it live.

Its because Green Flag is sponsoring it and they would go over their sponsor showing limit if they show it. so its blacked out.

From the ITC's ITC Code of Programme Sponsorship
Quote:
In all cases, visual or oral reference to any advertising, signage or branding at an event must be limited to what can clearly be justified by the editorial needs of the programme itself. In particular, every effort must be made to avoid branding for an advertiser or sponsor that seems to be deliberately positioned for the cameras, or positioned in such a place that makes prominent television exposure likely.
The Green Flag logos in the car are deliberately positioned for the cameras and therefore not allowed. The BBC wasn't covered by the guidelines so they could show the equivilent AA logos last year.

I agree with ya on that one. Sorry, I know this isn't really relevant to the topic of the thread, but just wanted to say what I said!

Though for years we saw "Auto Trader" blazened on the dash's of BTCC cars, so why cover it up now?

In the days of Auto Trader the coverage was on the BBC, which as I said isn't covered by the ITC guidelines.

I don't remember the logos being covered for the Brands/Outlton coverage, so maybe someone from the production company got a call from the ITC.

In Nascar they even put sponsorship on the Suspension for wheels cams, roll bard are covered too, so why care about this?

Because NASCAR is not subject to ITC regulations.

Nascar is covered by ITC rules when it is shown in the UK - If you compare the coverage of the Busch series on C5 with the coverage on Motors TV (which is based in France, and therefore not covered by ITC rules) you will see that Channel 5 have blocked quite a lot out.

The Brands programme showed the logos, from Oulton they weren't shown.

Not quite true. RW has said that the championship is not ready for live TV as its main output. I was speaking to someone from Granada Sport 3 days before Brands who said that they are hoping that 1 of the satelite channels will show some of the rounds live this season.

Every round this season has had a talking point and the racing seems to have improved immensely from last year. I'd like to think there'll definitely be a few live rounds on ITV next year.

Lets hope so!

Anyone know the tv viewing figures from the three rounds so far?

I think the viewing figures are around 800,000 - 900,000 (for Oulton and Brands anyway, Thruxton I don't know)

Hmmmm...... I'm not sure about this one...... I don't see the point of covering them up..... we are discussing them more now than we would have done if they weren't covered up!

Richard West has said on his forum that the problem will be resolved for Silverstone's coverage - only thing is I don't know if this means taking logos out of cars or just showing them !

Ditto with their V8 supercars I noticed. Yet, I watched the Oulton race on Motors TV and noticed the logos blocked out.

Therefore I assume that ITV but the 'stickers' over the logos before the send it out on the international feed.

I think that is because this year the international version is made from the ITV version, rather than being made separately, so the source material the international producer has to work with has already been masked.
