The first test day of the year is nearly here... new teams, new drivers, new sponsors, new brands, new liveries.

All the chat about them stops being chat. when the rubber hits the road on Feb 15..

Hopefully it will be a nice sunny Sydney day, and a large crowd shows up to watch & take pics they will be happy to share in this thread.

And is the rumour about some cash being offered for fastest lap on the day true?

Is there any point to it? Just adds more cars on the track and if you got more than a handful you'd have to split sessions.

Hadn't heard about cash being offered. Could be a good idea for drumming up fan and media interest.

If you have the worst/most inexperienced drivers out there at the same time, the main game peeps will moan about not being able to get clean laps, and therefore not get any useful data.

IMO you'd probably end up with more red flags also, also causing the above.

Can't wait for the foxing about who was on what tyres when a lap that means squat takes "pole" at some stage tomorrow.

Disappointed the Volvos didnt make the grid walk...power steering issues apparently... Not a good look for the punters though

Got into stand at about 10, took 45min to get to park - great turn out, bet they had the same idea ie "no one will turn up in these conditions" wrong !!???
From soft rain to a slight drizzle then the track started drying out Coultard 3sec in front. Took a while before they all caught up, then drizzle and car line up. As said above Volvo's didn't come out but the cars were epic good times & seriously the best sounding V8 followed by the Merc, Ford by far the loudest. Left before 2nd test beer o'clock .....

Went from posting something every 15 minutes or so, to around an hour or so between updates.

FPR Runs Wrong Diff At Test Day

How this can happen is beyond me.... but it does explain the rat-a-tat-tatting of the #18 car especially at the end of the front straight... the other three seemed to button off before turn one, protecting the engines a little...

Bloody crazy that something this fundamental can be missed..

Test Performances

Mr Coulthard fastest...

There was a huge disparity in the number of laps run by some cars. The VIP car was barely seen in the first session.. not sure if they were scared of the rain

Mr Ingall did well enough to land in 13th overall at the end... he only did about half the number of laps of some of the others...

The 2nd Benz ran very well in Mr Holdsworth's hands... although the supposed lead car didnt do many laps and certainly didnt get near the top times

Any session where #1 isnt in the top half dozen was suggested by one media person at the circuit as not a true indicator of pace...
