GT Asia 2012 Season
This year GT Asia Series going to be a big change:SRO's Medal system will be introduce and all medals drivers are allowed to race including Platimun. Therefore professional drivers will be accpeted for the first time.
The possible driver combination for all classes are: Platimun+Bronze Gold+Bronze Sliver+Sliver Sliver+Bronze Bronze+Bronze Of course you can make a solo run like old days(and a complusory in Macau GT!) Calander as Follow: 3-4 May Yeongam,Korea (AFOS) 9-10 June Sepang,Malaysia (Super GT) 14-15 July Fuji,Japan (Formula Nippon) 18-19 Aug Suzuka,Japan (Super GT Suzuka 1000km) 29-30 Sept Autopolis,Japan (Super GT) 15-18 Nov Macau,China (Macau GP GT Cup) Except Macau all are event are running two rounds, and they are seeking possibility for Zhuhai Circuit return. Defending Champion Mok Wng Sun will continue 2012 campaign with his 458GT his teamate David Lai planned to join some race with his LP600+.Sepculation say they have purchased MP4 12C but car won't be delivered so early ,may be even final quarter of 2012 or 2013 Vice Champion Malagamuwa keep running on his LP560 at least,as he has linked to be one of buyer for Nissan GTR GT3 model.2009 Champion Hamann has missed Macau GT race last year due to health problem and his chance to race this year uncertain. Eurasia motorsport are going to continue with Frank Yu and Samson Chan, with Yu driving Ford and Chan with Ginetta. 2011 debutant Asia Racing Team has pairs of MY2011 porsche GT3-R,but one of them has destoryed by a massive crash in Macau GT last year, one brand new MY2012 has arrived their workshop in Zhuhai Circuit last month. But nothing have confirmed by them. There are 3 races in Japan and Organizers has posted a adverts for Japanese through local agents, some drivers from porsche carrera cup japan are expected to join the events, and Hitotsuyama Racing also interested to race their R8 too. However, depends on their commitments on Super GT while its has a harsh limitation on vehicles(you can't race in other series after registered in GTA) Just like last serval years some customer and european teams are rumoured to join the series too:Absolute Racing are going to enter the series under Audi Customer Racing China Banner, and plenty of drivers raced in ILMC Zhuhai race are linked to driver's seat.Engslter Motorsport also wants to race, but only to do so with drivers who have sufficents budgets.besides JAS motorsport intend their interest of GT Asia Series on Autosport magazine last summer, there are speculation about a british team entry the race with pairs of mercedes. As the Tranditional of series we have plenty of spot entrant from HK,other drivers who was/is driving porsche carrera cup asia.I belive Billy Fung,YL siu and Jacky Yeung Cheuk Hing would like to join race in Sepang. |

Glad to see so many teams with nice line-ups and latest cars, probably better then ever. For me the only pity is 3/6 races will be held in Japan while no races in China mainland, Taiwan or Hong Kong.

Four rounds shared with the Japanese Super GT - that's interesting.

Audi put up a great show for Macau GP last year and it was indeed a memorable one. It was a manufacturer lesson of what shall be done and how it must be done. That's where my money goes this season.

Then again, last year Audi brought out their big gun to drive that R8, whilst most of the remainders (sans Daniel Watts) are pretty much gentlemen drivers. Base on that bit I'd put the money on whoever had the most good looking CV.
As for the Pan Bay...I think it's a new track in Taiwan, and at least there's a demo run held there with a GT3 car. It's a shame that a race wouldn't be held there probably this year. |

Can someone explain the GTM class to me, they sure look like GT2 cars, but how come they don't get anywhere near GT3?

I understand GTM class is for old GT3 machinery (Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 911 CUP S, Aston Martin GT3,so on). I'd expect nothing less.

After the disagreement with Korea International Circuit, opening race has switched to Sepang as usual,on 25-27 May.
Singaporean David Lai Decided to switch his car from Gallardo LP560+ to Ferrari 458,belived he is using Mok's B Car used in MMER and Bathrust 12 hours. Philip Ma also join with Audi R8 ,after his entry declined by region competition series, Asian GT organized by FRD.(well, after schedule change they are going to race in same circuit (Sepang) on the same day Hong Kong Based Japanese Francis Hideki Onda are going join 2nd Sepang Race with Upgraded F430 GT Scuderia. |

Any "factory" entries? |

It was a one-two finish for Porsche 997 GT3R in Round 4 of the GT Asia Series today at Sepang International Circuit. Chinese national Li Zhi Cong claimed the race win for Asia Racing Team while Japanese Hisao Shigeta took second for Direction Racing in a scorching race.
GT Asia Series continues in Fuji Speedway Circuit in Japan from 13-15 July 2012. |
