Small video camera for FF cars

Can anyone recommend a small, hopefully cheap, video camera to fit on an FF roll hoop? I've seen small "air" (?) cameras but believe they are expensive?

I think there was a thread on cameras in the Racers forum, but can't remember if specific cameras were discussed. JD may be able to help when he comes along...

Mike,
Alan Pike used to own one. It is probably surplus to his requirements now, as he hasn't got an FF roll hoop to attach it to. He may well lend it to you if he doesn't want to sell it. You can but ask.

A scouser lending something!!!!!!!!

Surely not. Try asking Andy Glossop from L&CCC he attached one to my car about 3 years ago. Picture quality was very good considering it was his first attempt. I've still got the tape if you'd like to borrow it sometime.

Thanks Diz and Swift. I don't have a contact for Alan, can you PM me?
Dave, I would love to see the tape. I did discuss with Andy at the time you did it but he didn't seem keen to lend unless he was setting it up. I'll discuss with you next time I see you. Thanks
Phil N and myself were discussing the possibility of getting one to share and then use in both races. Perhaps get a few more drivers involved? (When does it become commercial use?)

If it's not going to cost a fortune I would love to have an in car camera.
Whether it points backwards or forwards would need thinking about!

Hi Jason, forward facing would show how slow I really am and rearward facing would be for collecting evidence!

Well we're all in jolly moods today! (brightens up work though!)

I'd like to give a camera a whirl - looks like about £150 for a camera but I don't know what else is needed. Does anyone know? Problem with sharing one between class A and B looks to be scrutineering. Could we "share" results for "costs" or is that too commercial?

Jas - do Red Arrows films get more money?

The lens is the cheap part.

You can either use a standard video camera/DVCam or one of these:

http://www.panasonic.com/PBDS/subcat..._ag-dv1dc.html

As it has no lens it will last longer (the vibrations can ruin normals video camera lenses). You can get one shipped from the US for around £550 + shipping.

By the sounds of it scrutineers want everything bolted down quite tightly. Velcro wont necessarily pass all scrutineers.

Im looking at running one for the whole season next year....fingers crossed I can raise the sponsorship.

Race-TV

I used a company called rave-tv at the Brands Hatch festival 2 years on the run. (I wanted video evidence I had raced there for when they trash the track)

Race TV had some pretty impressive kit and where very cheap for a 1 weekend deal. This is an option if you wanted to hire a camera for a one of event. If you wanted to buy, I suggest you give Nick at Race-TV a ring, he should be able to help you pick the right kit for your car and budget. I can assure you the 2 videos of the 2 years I got where almost digital quality ! there where EXCELLENT. They also had pretty good sound too.

If you want to see the videos to judge the quality - let me know.

Nick is a nice and helpful guy and the website is http://www.race-tv.com

Give him a call.

Matt.

Jas, it's like this--
1. Jane doesn't read this forum
2. I haven't told her yet
3. I probably cannot afford it (no camcorder)
4. It always looks slower on TV, and
5. I might not show it to her

But when she finds out??

Wonder what Anglesey would have looked like??
