Race Morning Warm Up Back
It seems the race morning warm up session has been bought back. The news will be released tomorrow. There is also another change of race structure to be announced as well, but not sure what that is.

Changing the shootout back to how it was would be a good idea.

I don't see anything wrong with the top 10 shootout as it is. It does not make any difference to the results at all unless there are vast differences in track conditions during the shootout. It doesn't matter when the driver goes for his hot lap as they should be ready to go at any time.

It mightn't mean much to the reults pete, but being at the track, it's sorta feels a little flat, I liked it when the fastest guys came out last personally. Although I'm not sure we need shootouts, but that's another topic.

I can't understand why it would feel flat. You are hardly ever going to get the top five drivers running 1 to 5 in order. For instance you could have a situation where Murphy or Ingall might run first then you have Skaife and Ambrose running at the tail or vice versa. They will be mixed up and it should even be more interesting. In saying that i don't really care if they have a top 10 shoutout or not. I reckon only having one car on the track at a time is cause enough for it to feel flat.

GREAT. More laps for Skaifey to bend or blow up his car More laps for him to make excuses

im not sure we need a morning warm up, it would depend on what round it is.
if it is a single race round, then the spectator needs some v8 action to fill the day. but if it is a multi race round then they have enough action (although it is a fair case that the more we see them the better) i dont agree with the argument that they need the warm up to make sure there are no problems, what if something goes wrong in the warm up then they will need another warm up. i hope they have a warm up at bathurst as it is part of the sunday morning ritual (tradition) as for top 10, i am a firm believer in that in theory each car should be getting quicker, this builds the suspense of the top 10 and rewards the faster driver for their qualifying effort, in that they have times to aim for and will know straight away where they are qualified, imagine if the slowest driver came out last, interet will be reduced as the quick driver have already decided their times |

well im glad the warm up is back.
visiting sevral V8 rounds over the last few years i totally got bored with everything because there was nothing happening on track. very few support classes and then half of them were terrible to watch but at least they came there is just getting less and less track action these days and after all thats what we pay to see. we want cars on track i dont care if its racing or a warm up session at least they are on track and we can see them so im rather glad the warm up is back. |

Have the warm-up, don't have it....who cares? the Indianapolis 500 gets by without, prior to the first parade lap on Sunday, the last lap they turn is on Carburation Day on the Thursday before. Rather than run the top 10 in order or out of a hat, why not just can it completely (besides Bathurst), make proper qualifying more important. I find more suspence in a proper qualifying session than any of these 'made for TV' one lap dashes, which is mostly down to chance. |

The yop 10 run off is an adaptation of the Bathurst Saturday afternoontradition which worked brilliantly because it was, well, Bathurst. Nothing else holds a candle to it. But that's only part of it. The shootout well, that's fine but the majority of Joe Sometimes spectators come on the Sunday and fior the cars not to go ou until the afternoon for the race is a bit of a stretch seeing as AVESCO want to attract new fans/grow the series etc!
For the die hard fans, if you want to see the cars in situ and observe the teams at work and soak it all up as well as watch the cars go around, go into the paddock and prop up the the garage walls. It's what most of us have been doing for ages. |

Sorry Matt tradition for Bathurst Top 10 is 10am Saturday morning. But Cochrane stuffed that one up too. All for tv. As for the morning warm up. Woo Hoo!! "Someone" in there has a brain. Morning warm up is benneficial all round. Drivers need it and spectators want it. What planet is Larko on. Race day drivers don't want to be signing for an hour and a half before a race. If people really want an autograph you get it on Friday/Saturday or after the race on Sunday.. CALL IT ENTERTAINMENT IF YOU WANT, BUT TO US IT WILL ALWAYS BE A SPORT. COME ON SAFETY COMES FIRST!! |

yeah but it was a good move doing it for the arvo. Now tv gets it live and remember the year gardner got pole. During the ad breaks of the telecast ten news updates were showing the shootout with gardner all the time. Ruined the whole shootout before it even began.

Not the same as 10am. Its only on in the arvo so channel 10 can go straight to their news and hope that you poor buggers who aren't on "the mountain" keep watching.

Remember at the 1997 AVESCO 1000, they interviewed Dick during the GTP 3 Hour, where he gave away that Skaife had gotten pole. I liked it at 10am, but at least nowadays it's back to the Top 10 only, not any of this Top 15 silliness of 2001 and 2002 (when more than a third of the field were entering the run-off). |
