Sol should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Qualifying Rules

Can someone run the qualifying rules past me again?

The top age of consent, then the top 10 or something?

All in brawl for 15 mins, top 20 move to the next phase for another 15 mins, then the top 10 for the last 15 mins which determines the order for race 1. No shootout.

And the real prize is that they all get the same number of tyres, so if you are quick, you have to travel twice to three times the distance on your rubber than the bloke who qualified 31st

So why not allocate one set of tyres for qualifying.. for qualifying only.. and the drivers in this shootout thingumy can do as many laps as they like under it and not risk their race weekend.

But the qualifying tyres go back to Dunlop at the end of the session, used and abused or not.

Three top runners all used four sets of tyres.
Tander not totally happy with the car.
Whincup reckons his engineer jagged the setup.

flying finn should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
consider this .......

F1 qualifying system;
all 22 cars for first 15 minutes,
top 15 cars for the next 15 minutes and
top 10 cars for the last 15 minutes

V8 Supercars;
all 31 cars for the first 15 minutes,
top 20 for the next 15 minutes and
top 10 cars for the last 15 minutes

V8's are much bigger and there are more of them on the track for the first 15 minutes so on a short track or a tight street circuit getting held up could be a problem and ending with a good lap time may become a lottery. The opening 15 minutes needs to be well planned beforehand to give the driver the cleanest possible opening run. Even the next 15 minutes with 20 cars can get congested. Perhaps V8 Supercars should extend the qualifying sessions to 30 minutes, 20 minutes and 15 minutes ??

I only "watched" qualifying on Live Timing, but it was a darn side more interesting than a shootout...

I reckon it's a big improvement!!!

I like the new format, although the last top ten period could be shortened, as most drivers would be down to the last set of new tyres by then, at a normal sprint round at least.

I hope there is a rule, such as in Champ Car, that if a competitor causes a red flag stoppage (or hinders others attempts), that their fasted lap time is taken away.

Eg, doing a ‘Schumacher’ and going softly into a tyre bundle, or by ‘running out of fuel’ and stopping in an awkward position on the track.

The first 15min session will be interesting at places like Barbagello and Symmons. Short laps and not much room when they are all out.

GTR has got a point here. Leave the tyre allocation to the race and maybe allow the teams to use one new set for qualifying. If they do damage tyres during the session then they will be forced to use their race tyres - penalty for bad driving or set-up. Like your train of though GTR@

Your queries re: new qualifying and tyres doesnt seem to be affected by the leading results from Saturdays results. But, it could be too early to tell....
