Which wet weather tyres?
After Silverstone's mishap in the rain I was thinking about buying some proper wets. What's the best choice, must be 15 inch, 205 or 225 wide and preferably 60 profile.

Got to be list 1A/B, Ternce just looked up on the Avons and they now seem to be ZZ3 and they are a reasonable price compared with other tyres I use.

Vaguely remember Toyo doing a soft version of the 888. Might be worth a look. Also, Kumho V70A's in softer compounds are pretty good in the wet.

I bought a set of ZZ1's for that very purpose, put them on a spare set of rims and took them to every meeting for nearly two seasons. Thing about that sort of tyre though, is it's only going to be better than what you usually use if there's proper standing water on the track. In the two seasons I had mine time it only rained hard enough to need them four times. On three occasions the organisers closed the track for a while to allow it to drain so I didn't use them. On the fourth occasion I was already on the dummy grid when the heavens opened, so I had to race on the 032Rs anyway! In the end I just sold the ZZs, still brand new with pimples and all.

Bugger, as with most things racing apparently the ZZ1s were far better than the current ZZ3 offerings. My outing at Silverstone would have been the same as you describe, sunny when we went to the assembly area and the heavens opened as we formed up on the grid. Sods law I think it's called.
