I am curious, I heard during this year's broadcast on Speed, but I don't remember if it was the Speed comentators or RLM comenatators, that the race is always the 24th weekend of the year. I havent' looked at a calendar and checked if that was accurate. Is that accurate?

No Paul, it had been even earlier in the past... depending of the french calendar (political, mainly).
At my knowing, dates are still provisionnal, waiting to be confirmed by ACO... |

I think ACO tries to get the dates between 10 and 20 june
so 2004 should be 11/12, but 2006 could be 17/18 that could suit you, Mags (I'd prefer this too, BTW) |

I always works on the 24th Weekend of the year which always seems to be right unless some tennis or football championship gets in the way.

Fathers day is normally a good guide,as is the weekend before the longest day.
This years race was brought forward to avoid a clash with Euro 2004 I believe, there are no big football champs next year so the race should be on its normal weekend, however with the aco you should take nothing for granted! Dreamer, I have sent you an email re camping 2005. |

the first year i went(1998)it was june 6/7...due to the start of france 1998 world cup, the race started at 2pm. i remember mainly because my birthday is the 7th June, and i'd forgotten all about it until we were captioning up pictures from the podium to wire out...the tech said "whats the date?", and i replied "7th June.......hey....its my birthday!". i guess being at le mans tends to make you forget little things like that!

Le Mans 2005 Date
I'm I right in thinking that there would be no reason why the 2005 date would not be 11/12 June 2005??

Ok at the risk of repaeting what others have already said...
the race is USUALLY as near as possible to the Summer Solstice i.e. the longest daylight day... however in the past it has been moved a week or so either way, or indeed to September once (elections I think) as the ACO thinks fit. Remember they have fiddled about a bit recently to try and avoid a clash with the Canadian GP but Bernie keeps moving that too! I love the idea of it being the 24th weekend of the year - has anyone done the counting? John Remember - always look forward to Christmas - it's halfway to the next Le Mans!!
