Falcon XR6
Am thinking of buying an XR6.
Probably an EL or AU, but might even go for an earlier EF (if a really nice one came up) or even an AUII if the Minister for Finance approves the release of additional funds. Unfortunately a BA is way out of the question Any advice/tips for young players re these models? Also, happy to hear a counterargument for other similar type cars (ie practical but still enjoyable to throw around). |

Now we are talking. I'm on my second XR6. The first was an ED which i sold with 150,00km on it. The only problem i had was the ABS module failed.$1200 to replace, so just drove it without ABS.
I now have an EL XR6. The El's are the pick of the XR's for that time. Mine is a 98 modelseries 2 which had the suspension upgrade and a few nicer bits on it as they were still selling them against the VT commodore. Excellent car for going on long trips as they are very comfortable and go very well. Also fun to fang around town. Mine is a manual with only 80,00km on it and i havnt had a problem with it (unless you count an idiot running inot the front of it). I will probablylook at selling it in the next six months otr so and get a2nd hand BA xr6. If you go for an AU , make sure it is a series 11. Better looking and they fixed up a lot of the original probelm. Better brakes and suspension. I passed up an AU11 Xr6 manual with about 30000km on it today, ill wait for a BA. It was very tempting though. You should be paying no more than about $18000 -$19000 for a good condition El with less that 100,00km on it. I know of a nice blue one for sale. AU11 should be about $26000 and up depending om the km and condition. |

My first XR6 was a 96 EF. (I currently own a AUII XR6)the EF was an awesome car it handled really well, I wanted a EL but at the time there were a little out of my price range. I am trying to locate an EL XR for my brother to buy and well to be honest you may be searching for a while for exactly what you want. keep an opened mind while searching and the right car will eventually fall into your lap. That's what happened to me. Good luck!

depends on what you call a realy nice EF, mine has 203000ks, manual, the only major prob ive had since ive owned it was the clutch pedal breaking off & the dash had to come out to fix it, had a few minor probs with the bcm but that was only dry solder joints easy fixed. if you need to change the injectors in a EF-EL go for the AU ones they have 4 atomising holes & fit straight in, ment to give 5kw more power, but i couldnt notice a diference

After much searching for the right XR6 (did I forget to mention I was after a ute - opps) I failied to find one that fulfilled all my criteria (most were either a bit knocked around or very expensive)
Hence I've bought an AUII XL - in great condition and affordable. Now, the question is - what have I forgone by going with the run'o'the mill version instead of the XR? Comparitive test driving didn't indicate a big difference (although its hard to get definitive from a short spin round the block with the salesman). The views of the forum would be appreciated. |

Yep, bought an AUII XL ute - couldn't find a suitable XR6 and basically ran out of time and patience. I am happy with the XL - may investigate a suspension upgrade to improve handling, but wouldn't want to compromise load carrying 'cause its been really handy. (maybe swaybars and alignment kit - ideas welcome?) Still have yet to hook up the trailer and see how it tows the racecar (which has its engine in bits at the moment anyway), but by all reports, the ute is the perfect towcar. |

alwayd good to see people stucking with ford!! My brother was the same. He had is heart on a EL XR8 in wither green or blue, but he can't seem to find anything that's suits him (either overpriced or wrong colour, he gave up and is looking at buying a AUI XR8 in black. cool.
Anyway hope you are very happy with the new wheels and you put that racecar back together!! |

well you wont have the larger insurance bill, for the sedan they double the cost over a GL
ive heard through the traps that the back of the cabs are prone to rust in the early AU utes you might want to check it |

Had a drive of AMoffat's 240T on the weekend and I have started saving! Awesome car and I'm extremely jealous.
He went for the leather interior and it looks fantastic. The cloth interior cheapens the look of a great car and I can't understand why they continue down this path. |

Forgot to add...
The power, driving position, handling and finish are all excellent. And in an article I read on the weekend where they compare the 240T and the V8, the turbo came out on top. |

yeah - but the xr6T does not have the growl of the xr8 though! I fell in love with the XR8 all over again on the weekend.

Who is this "wayne ker" fellow?
Must be a very clever chap to make all those funny asian cars sneeze as they drive away from the lights. The XR6T will be the "Turbo VL" for the next decade - obnoxious pop-off valves and sewer pipe exhausts will be de rigueur if you want to be phat with the sic boyz. |

Deadset, sometimes you wonder about these things...
In town the other day, there was a really hot ricer, probably doing 40km/h between sets of traffic lights, and it was hissing and popping and farting . A tad of overkill? I think some of them need a blower to feed the sucker to have it make such horrid noises... |
