Massa Signs With Jordan!!!

Today, Felipe Massa confirmed he has signed up with Jordan to partnet Fisichella for 2003.

"Its all decided. Eddie Jordan wants me in his team. I am very confident about the season" He said.

Shame about Sato..but al least we have still got Felipe!

The reports sofar have been vague as to whether Felipe (which does not begin with a P) has been signed as race or test driver. I'm not sure where he has money from, but I suspect that is what has got him the drive, as Eddie Jordan has very little money in the team at present.

A Jordan spokesperson has said that nothing is yet agreed: "We know he is very highly regarded. But nothing has been agreed. After all, it has been reported in recent weeks that he has joined Ferrari as a test driver."

This must mean Petrobras or Red Bull will be taking Deutsche Post's place. Hard cheese for Sato, he deserved that seat but business is business I guess, he'll be back. At least it's not going to be EI.

His is not signed! He said that there is interest but nothing is definate yet. After all there is still the matter of a contract with Sato. Here is a link to the interview.

If you read all the F1 sites it seems he has tenatively approached Jordan, still has hopes of being Saubers test driver and would like to be a Ferrari test driver.Doesn't really sound like EJ has been beating his door down with a contract. But these rumours keep the off season interesting.

Massa is definately an excellent racer. With some more grooming he can be a force in F1. I think the same of Sato. In fact Sato is even more exciting and has improved throught the year. His improvement may have been slow but I am sure he has learned a lot from his first season.

Massa would be good replacing some other non-racers on the grid though. Williams should take a good look at him!

I don't know, after a shaky start, I thought Taku was just beginning to come into his own as an F1 driver... With all due respect to Massa fans here, personally, if I were Eddie, I'd stick with Sato...

Yep Jordan should keep Sato. I dissed him at the start of the season but he's actually a pretty good driver!

Both drivers are very much from the same mould so I see no reason to choose Massa over Sato. The key to EJ's decision has to be commercial as he needs all the backing he can get. Surely Sato, with the huge Japanese fan base and marketing potential, would be the smart choice?

Sato's future is quite safe with Honda...it won't do him any harm (or anyone else!) to do a year of R&D with Honda at BAR next year.

im trusting your judgement here Rennen !....as your more in the know than i am ....i hope Takuma's career is safe in the hands of Honda , i just hope that by taking a year out he doesnt get overlooked......And for all Massa's talent , i am desperate to see Ant Get a race seat for next year , so for that reason , i hope that Massa is in the queue BEHIND Ant...

then maybe Ant and Taku can partner each other once a gin in the future....as they would sure as hell push each other very very hard , and thats what we all like to see isnt it .

i dont see why everyone would rather see Ant over Felipe. i mean, Massa has had points in only his second race, he has had the edge on Heidfeld in several races (look at nurburgring).

Ant on the other hand, spun off in both his races while he was running last.

is it just because he is British?

a little bit yes m, but also because people like us that have followed him through junior formula's have seen what he has to offer .

I like Massa too , i love his style .

But Ant composes him self so well.

To tell the truth, I wish Sato could have gone to Toyota but Honda wouldn't have a BAR of it (Please, excuse the puns but they ARE accidental.)

But I'm serious. Ove Andersson has Gustav Brunner designing the new car and oodles of deniro. Sato would have had a good future there. As it is, I think Sato's got a lot of unfulfilled potential but this year we'll see whether he can achieve it.

I see no reason why Massa would replace him. They're not too much differant in performance now that Sato's got a year under his belt, and two will no doubt improve him even further. Massa would have to bring enough money to pay Sato out of his contract wouldn't he?
