I thought a lot of the old stuff was thrown out by both ATN & HSV years ago when they ran out of storage space but they would've kept some highlights stuff for eah of the Bathurst and other events.

Talking of old footage does anyone know if there is any still in existence of the Brock/Bond Rallycross events in the GTR/XU1/Beast?

Good episode on the weekend, really enjoyed it, although I had seen a lot of the footage before, Dick Johnson and John Bowe next week should be interesting too.

Maybe it's out of Mr Noonan's vault?

Over here in NZ, we have a Freeview channel called TVNZ6. They show a lot of historic TV shows on there like old episodes of It's in the Bag and the 2nd longest running show on NZ TV, Country Calendar. Some of it, like the documentary-style Country Calendar stuff, is awesome.
I wonder what profile it would give to motorsport to do a bit of the V8Xtra episode here and show old footage and talk to old drivers. There's some real history, and in the day of the retro, I'm sure it would be popular - just look at Champion's Brock Museum. That is beyond awesome!!! |

I do remember as a youngun being able to go to the Rallycross at Calder in the early 70's and get home just in time to watch the coverage of it on TV (We lived about 15 minutes from Calder). I'd love to go through the Archives of the TV stations to see what they've got although much of it would be buried in land fill by now. These pics of Brock at Calder are a selection of many on the www.autopics.com.au site |

If anyone has footage of the 1987 ATCC, i'd love to know if Corolla Sprinter #41 makes an appearance.

With the Brock muesum, I'm very suprised they don't have Brock's last V8 Supercar, the 2004 VY (Chassis HMS048 if I'm correct)

V8Xtra has unearthed some interesting stuff over the years. There was footage of Garry Rogers in 1979 Hardies Heroes a few years back, along with 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 b&w footage.
Some of these finds makes you wonder how real (or is that reel) the landfill stories are Some Calder Rallycross stuff has appeared over the years, most of it seemed to be filmed by Holden for their archives. (appears briefly on 'Peter Brock The Legend' VHS, and when Brock was on "This is Your Life") Quote:
Bob drove the 'white' car in the first AMSCAR (numbered as #13), Glenn clark drove the 'black'car numbered as #41 John Sax drove the 'white' car (numbered as #41) at the second AMSCAR round (with Bob back in his regular 'black' #13) John also drove the same car at the Oran Park ATCC round (once again numbered #41), Garry Wilmington drove Bob's #13. The car likely also appeared in some of the seperate 2-litre ATCC rounds. |

Rick's 2006 winner was HRT052, this too is in the D'Alberto stable so logically this would have been converted. HRT048 was the car Brock was entered to drive in 2004, but he didn't complete any race laps at Bathurst. The last car Brock raced in the 1000, the Rod Nash Racing VX from in 2002, is at Peter Champion's Brock Museum. The last car he won at Bathurst with, the 24 hour Monaro from 2003 is owned by Garry Rogers and is on display at the Mt Panorama museum.

The clips shown were broadcast quality; the races that I've seen from '69onwards are of variable quality, but none are close to broadcast quality.
Perhaps a Bathurst marathon on 7TWO on the night before Bathurst is closer to reality? |

As well as the 1987 Amscar series it did the Sandown, Lakeside & Oran Park rounds of the championship and was Bob's T car at Bathurst. |

It was 2003 and the race was over 24 hours.
Back on the footage subject, Peter Hansen when he was CAMS CEO was very keen to try and curate old Australian motorsport footage. The problem then and now is that this is an horrendously expensive exercise. Most of the old footage was taped over but some highlights reels were kept and some of this footage shows up occasionally. Things like Bathurst are routinely kept but even the ABC has lost much of their footage including several Australian Grands Prix. Some of the stuff I'd love to get hold of includes: Shell's full colour doco on the 1971 ATCC round at Bathurst. Sunday Symphony: A doco following the Ansett Team Elfin F5000s across the Tasman series in the early 70's TCN's Oran Park coverage HSV's Calder coverage (Bob Jane says he still has some copies) and anything from 0/10's Phillip Island, Calder Drags, coverage. We've got hundreds of hours of local stuff going back to the eighties and nineties but logging it all and keeping it in good condition would take months of full time work. The late Murray Batson had heaps of Super 8 footage of Sandown in the 60's through to the end of the 70s but apparently it's all gone down the tip now. If anyone here has old private footage then by all means let me know so that it can possibly be saved onto a more robust format. Old Super 8 film is nearing the end of it's usable lifespan. |
