Renault - observations

Hi all,

After watching the renault for the last 1 and a bit seasons you start to see where the Renault is so good.

Firstly in the modern era I have never seen a car travel so close to the other without being affected by the dirty air. Of course there is some understeer but most of the time it can just sit there.

It seems like an extremely forgiving car. Small mistakes by the driver result in what appears to be very small "offs" if that. Most time they don't make it to the gravel or grass.

Also, the Renault seems to be able to get it's power down early. I don't mean just off the line but out of tight corners. Must be a torque engine.

When you add all of these points together you have a massive amount of potential. So it's no wonder that FA is winning so easily. I say that and then think, well if it is so easy to win, where is Fisi? I think Fisi is a good driver and wonder why he isn't up there more often. Maybe Alonso is just a freak (in a good way). I guess we will have to wait and see in 07.

What are your observations. Do you agree with my thoughts on Renault or do you think I am trying to underestimate FA's ability.

Cheers

I think it is a mix of both: the Renault is a great car, but Alonso is able to extract pace out of the likes of which most likely only he, Kimi, and Michael could.

Your observations are exactly correct in relation to the chassis behaviour, & the engine must have a very good torque spread compared to others. They really have done their homework. Cheers [viva la FRANCE]
