Spaceframe Imps suspension

At the moment I have lotus suspension fitted to my Stiletto racing car, it is really frustrating because the suspension is so bulky, needs alot of anchoring points and makes the rear track too wide.

I really fancy taking the car back to its original imp suspension which would cut down some of the bulkiness of the chassis and make the car more original.

Does anyone have any photos or drawings of the Maguire, Rawlson, Mason or Davrian cars suspension setups?

Cheers

You would'nt want an original Imp road car suspension as thats crap, when I worked for Nathan Racing years ago I prepared their racing Imp for Lianna Engleman to race and as I recollect it had Tubular fabricated wishbones front and rear with special castings for uprights on the back as used on the GT's. may have used an Imp modified front upright from an Imp but it was a long time ago although I am sure it used standard steering arms so probably was the Imp upright.

This lot was designed by Frank Costin but suffered from terrible bump steer till I hit on the bright idea of swapping the steering arms around (upside down) and Viola the bottom wishbone and the steeing rack ran perfectly parrellel bumpsteer eliminated, almost as though it had been designed like that in the first place (probably was in fact but someone must have boo booed on the way).

Ok Ok I am a signmaker/writer and printer what do you expect It was still less of a boo boo than a certain famous suspension man made and the car was actually campagined like that (with the bump steer!)

the maguire Imp used the std imp wishbones with rose joints on it instead of the metalistic rubber mounts
suggest u get a car set sand blast them and then seem weld them up
u can drill some holes to make them lighter
i cant recall if rose jount was welded to wishbone or it was on the tube frame to allow for the adjustments to be made

All the super saloon imps (steel, semi & fully spaceframed) I remember from Ingliston days had the standard suspension heavily modified as described above but with coilover adjustable platform spring/dampers

I have some old pictures of Imps, semi-spaceframe and otherwise. All the quick ones used FFord suspension(Pre-74). e-mail me at chris @flatoutfarr.co.uk and I will scan the pictures into my PC and send them to you.

Still hanker after a Ford engined Imp.

In fact any special saloon! Just loved the 1970's ones. McGuire Minis were my other favourite.

have a look on the imp owners club site. there are a lot of active roundy roundy types who post on there. In the gallery there are several versions of tubular wishbones both front and rear...
