Hi, I have just purchased a formula ford built in 1969, raced by R Adlams. Chassis number 258. Does anyone have any knowledge of this car or its make.

Cheers

What country are you in Andy? I cannot trace a R.Adlams(or even a R.Adams)ever having raced in UK.Kept detailed ecords around '69,but I did not go beyond England for FF.

I had some PM corespondence with Andy. The car concerned is called a VIRO.
I thought it was a Lotus 61 as it has a very similar wedge shape.

driver records

Hi, found out some details about events the VIRO was raced in. On the 19/1/69 it raced at brands on its first outing in event 3 (scratch race) and got tenth place the race was won by Ray Allen in a Merlyn. It also raced in Domicilio (if I have got right town!) . I also believe the car was entered at thruxton on 6/3/69.
I have now got about 50 result sheets from R Adlam although mainly while driving other cars on hill climbs. On the 31st march 1968 Roy raced at Mallory Park in the BRSCC championship car races where he entered event two formula ford cars race. He was racing a lotus 51 car number 84 and he got 4th place.
Other cars that he raced in where formula fords designed by the King brothers in 1968 and a lotus 51.
If anyone else car find any other details I will be greatful.
Andy.

Viro Formula Ford

Hi Andy,

The Viro Formula Ford was a one-off built car in 1969 by NSU and Volkswagen dealer Roy Adlam (whose wife is Violet, thus "Vi - Ro") and used on the Continent and competing in the '70 Johnson Wax European Championship.

Attached pictures Programme Brands Hatch 19 january 1969.

Andy, can you send me by mail any pictures of your Viro Formula Ford car.
( for my archive/collection)
Thanks for it.
