JV to replace Monty?
Though this rumour is nothing new, A friend of mine tried to convince me he caught wind of this through TSN giving it a little more legs. What do we know/think?

know/think?
know: Montoya has a contract with Williams until 2005. McLaren is full until 2005. Ferrari is full until 2005 or 6. think: Not going to happen. |

know:
-JV has achieved nothing in 5 years since leaving Williams think: -There are many younger drivers out there who have proved to be equally fast if not faster, for a fraction of the price (economically and in terms of disruption to the team PR etc.) -FW won't want to go backwards, JV had his time, it's gone now |

Speculation:
I personally don't think JV will leave F1 until he wins a WDC for Ferrari(That’s if Ferrari doesn't implode!!). That won't be for a couple of seasons so he needs to keep his chops up somewhere. Just give this guy a reliable, fast car and he will prove his worth. |

Whether he leaves or not won't be his choice anymore.

Know: Sir Frank Williams belongs to the school of thought that you don't pay good money for nothing.
Know: JV stiffed him once in the past and Sir Frank has a long memory. Know: Jacques makes way more money than he's earning. Think: The only way Jacques will get a drive with Williams is if he pays them. Think: Jacques would be mad to drive at Ferrari and be mercilessly compared to his father, who was Ferrari's god. Recall that in his younger days he tried to drive for an Italian team and had to be jerked out of Euruope and hidden away in Japan to learn how to drive. Think: Jacques is finished as a driver but would be wonderful fun in the commentary box. Also think this would inspire TGF to retire. |

Think: TGF would veto the appointment thru clauses in his contract
Think: JV has had the golden opportunity to turn BARF1 into something special, instead it is a laughing stock Think: JV would be lucky to get a gig at Minardi based on current form & total disgust for promotional work with sponsors, and then only if he brought cash Think: Sir Frank seems impressed with Mark Webber.... Wish: Sir Frank signs Mark Webber up, ditches Ralf. |

JV still has more credence in the pitlane than the popular media might have you believe! Keep your minds open. |

JV is clearly not doing so well this year. I think he has more than he's delivering, but the question is what does he have left? Why would they pick him when his teammate is driving faster?

I thought I heard a rumour that Williams had told JV he would be welcome back if the opportunity ever arose.
Personally I'm of the opinion that given the right car he'll be back up there. So I hope he does replace Montoya when he does move on. I suspect that JV is a bit like Mansell, Give him a car capable of winning and he'll drive it a good deal faster than it is supposed to be able to go but give him a car that isn't capable of winning and he can't do a thing with it. They drive from the heart you see, If there hearts not in it all the speed flies south for the winter. |

Know:JV is getting whooped by a younger team-mate in a similar car.
Think:There are talented younger drivers out there who would ask for a fraction of Jv's current salary to drive for Williams. |

The salary thing is getting absurdly old now.
Goes to show that nobody here ever pays attention what anyone has said. |

Know: The only sure thing in F1 is that nothing is sure.
Think: Anyone that states that they know what's happening in FW's head (or any other team owners)should get his/her head examined. Think: I wish it would be true but I doubt it very much. |

You mean Euros, GTR?
I can't see JV returning to Williams, Frank rarely signs established drivers and has never re-signed someone who previously left the team (other than Mansell as a substitute). Besides, he will feel that JV is overpaid, has wasted his career and no longer has anything to offer. |

You could have called Prost an overpaid, washed up driver after '91/'92, but he did got signed by FW and did win his last WDC with Williams.
Could have been more if FW hadn't signed Senna. Last edited by ASCII Man; 5 Sep 2003 at 10:16. |

Think: He won't be at Williams
Hope: He will get a half decent drive somewhere for next season Know: Bugger all! This is F1 remember, I thought I knew that overtaking was impossible at Hungary especially when Ralf was doing it.... now I don't have a clue! |

Know: I know nothing (and I don't even come from Barcelona!).
Think: The rumour was that Montoya would be joining McLaren in 2005 and that Williams had already signed his replacement. If this is true, the only driver I can see Williams having signed up this early is one who started his F1 career at Williams and who now drives for BAR. And I don't mean JV... I'm not sure myself that JB would be the right man at Williams, but Sir Frank seems to think highly enough of him, and he's better placed than me to judge, so why not. |
