peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
there are no position changes in the top 10 think you might have some of your initials incorrect

but it opens up the championship a bit more

How about this years Championship with the 2002 points system? I personally think that 02 had the best one we have seen in years, its just that AVESCO got a bit excited when Skaife won the first 5 rounds and the Championship was over............

02's was very ordinary

after the first round skaifes lead was so much, that if he had have DNF'd at the island at worst he would have been 2nd in the championship.

the double points round was the problem, and then come bathurst you only got points for an ordinary round. waste of time in my mind

My ***** about the points system is how they award points for mediocre performers and those who circulate just for points. It should be cut off at P15 at the lowest.

Also, each race should be awarded the same points. It's rubbish and skews the results when some races are awarded double points.

Oh for a return to the ATCC and AEC concepts...

Aren't they?

I'm looking at the Avesco operations manual PDF files. According to it, there are a lot of races that are awarded more points than others. Some races award 192 points, with others 96 points for 1st place.

And how's this for being ludicrous? Bathurst, if you come last, you earn 68 points, which is 4 more than if you come first in any of the races at the Queensland round.

So, with that in mind, doesn't this skew the race results? You can have a DNF at one one, where your closest competitor wins and earns 64 points. He then DNFs during, say Bathurst, you come last, and you're up on him by 4 points.

And in any case, the idea of rewarding losers in competition, to me, is laughable.

Nope, fixed points for all races down to say, 15th. That way, the "competitors" who circulate merely for appearance money, or to accrue points without really trying aren't given squat. Let 'em fight for that 1 point that 15th place earns them.

ok my mistake

no round is worth double points any more

at the end of the weekend the most you can walk away with is 192 points, thus each round is equal

once upon a time (2002) you could walk away from the adelaide round (round 1) with twice as many points as nearly every other round including bathurst.

and i disagree that each race should be equal, each round should be equal, as it is now

except bathurst and sandown, which is a total disgrace.
at Sandown skaife ended 30ish laps down in 25ish place and still scored over 100 points for the round no real reward for winning there at all

if you smash the car at bathurst you drive it back to pits and fix the thing because you have effectively 1hour 45 to fix it and still pick 100 points plus in the championship

MJT, Not against your suggestion at all, but the only reason points are allocated down to last place is because of the agreement that if a franchise finshes in the bottom two positions in the championship in 2 (3?) consecutive years then the franchise can be revoked...Only giving points down to say P15 doesn't allow you to differentiate the four teams that would finish the season on zero...

Additionally, the winner of each ROUND (not race) takes home a maximum of 192. The 6 point drop between final positions in each round allows for 1, 2 or 3 races down to 32nd. The 4 point drop between positions at the two endurance races was originally implemented to take into account the larger grid sizes...sort of irrelevant this year...especially when points still get cut of at 32...

Just a general comment about this thread...you can not meaningfully recalculate a season using a different point structure. Many drivers have said that they will not attempt a pass near the end of a race and risk a DNF due to the small potential point gain. Given a different point system, the drivers strategy also changes...

That's pretty true. All of the drivers and teams know what each position is worth rlative to the one above and below, and calculate the risks according to where they find themselves in each race along the Championship trail.
