Dale jr
Ok there have been lots and lots off romers going around about dale jr, where he might go in 2008. So which will be the right romer?
Dale jr will stay with DEI? Dale jr will make up his own team? Dale jr will go to RCR and may race the #3 number Or Dale jr well go to RCR and keep the #8 number |

I am thinking that Jeff Gordon will retire at the end of next season and Dale Jr. will take over his ride.

I see where DEI has signed 17 yr old Jeffrey Earnhardt, son of Kerry Earnhardt, to a contract to drive in the Busch East Series. Jeffrey has done a little dirt track racing and also on some ovals near Pulaski, Virginia. The Busch East series is where Harvick, Truex, and Craven got their start. Jeffreey is in the 11th grade in school.

If Dale Jr. was smart he would go to RCR and race the #3. I don't think DEI will ever produce a championship winning team. The team lacks consistancy and chase or not that the most important thing. I get the general impression that the management at DEI makes rather poor decisions that end up hurting the results (the big crew swap a couple of years ago is a good example).
I also have a feeling that the new #15 team will be an R&D team like the #1 of a few years ago and will run poorly, which will ultimately lead to Menard and his fathers money going else where (they left Petree midseason a few years ago, so it could easily happen). I imagine Bud will go where Dale Jr. goes, and they would probably jump at the advertising from being tied up with the #3. So ultimately it'll come down to Junior. If the #8 runs well this year and he does have the chance to win the title, he'll stay with DEI. If the performance is lackluster (which could easily happen) he'll leave. J.D. |

HMS would never sign Dale Jr. They only sign decent drivers.

Jr Wants Majority ownership......read the whole article.
http://www.racingone.com/article.aspx?artnum=33191 The negotiations between Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and DEI took another turn during Thursday's Media Day activities at Daytona with Junior now asking for a majority ownership stake. With Earnhardt, Jr.'s contract at DEI set to expire at the end of the 2007 season, the two sides have been negotiating in hopes of finalizing an extension. Earnhardt, Jr. met with DEI officials on Wednesday night, including newly-appointed president of Global Operations Max Siegel and director of motorsports Richie Gilmore. DEI president Teresa Earnhardt was not in the meeting. |

Interesting twist. A small part of me, deep down inside, is hoping there is a huge fallout that leads to Dale Jr. leaving DEI and ending up driving a certain black Monte Carlo SS...

I'd love to see him run with RCR, but I don't want to see him switch to having a number 3 on the door. That was his dads number. He is number 8, like his grandad.

"Captain Obvious Beer. It's a beer. Made by me. Captain Obvious. I'm Captain Obvious and I made a beer, that's why it's called Captain Obvious Beer. And this is my slogan." Back on-topic, Jr. isn't getting younger. Years ago he mentioned that he would like to do the Indy 500, among other motor races outside of NASCAR. I think that was before his ALMS Corvette crash, so it may not stand now. But the way I see it, I think if he's going to want a really solid chance to contend for a championship (and thus move on to other, lower priority (to him) events), he might just have to ditch DEI. I don't see him being able to focus on it with all the other happenings going on inside of DEI. Of course this would mean that he'd have to take some things with him if he doesn't want a rough start at a new team (i.e. bringing Tony Eury Jr. with him as crew chief if he can). |

Absolutely. And I honestly think, given the right working enviroment, he could (and should?) win the Nextel Cup. There's been plenty of examples in the past of drivers who may not be the most naturally gifted driver ever born winning big titles. Look at Nigel Mansell, no one who saw him in his early years in F1 would ever have believed he'd win back to back F1 and CART championships.

You can only go so far on a name and then talent has to come into play. Jr has certainly demonstrated talen by driving his way into the playoffs by finishing in the top 10 over a season. Winning some "plate" races doesn't get you into the top 10. You also have to be good over the other tracks.

Well, I look at it this way.
He made one mistake in the chase last year that cost him (Martinsville), but he was taken out at Talledega, Ran Richmond prior to the chase without front breaks and generally did a darn good job given the car he had. |

Yes, he could count himself unlucky not to be in really, really strong contention at Homestead, rather than the outside chance he had.

I think what has 'hurt' Dale Jr. the most throughout the years is DEI - it's a really good team, but it's no Hendrick Motorsports or Roush Racing.
And let's remember that Dale Jr. does have 17 Cup wins - 7 on the restrictor plate tracks and 10 on the non-plate ones, so there has to be some degree of talent involved |
