Chevron B 6 & B 8

Is it worth while to open a thread to trace the 44 examples built of the Chevron B8? Is the model suffering from the same fate as the B16, with almost more fake than real cars about?
Up to now I have identified five, but I have seen many more. A good selection can be found here

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/2...on-B8-BMW.html

and I would love to see all cars there being identified (Silverstone 2005). (and possibly not all cars have a BMW engine too)

Problem is lots of us know lots about cars with long or short history. But now we have the web and one day the truth will be out.

So, Chris, what's it say on the chassis plate?

I've been trying to get Marcus Pye to dig out all his stuff on these for about 3 years, but apart from the fact that he is a busy man, I get the impression that it is buried in his garage somewhere. I'll keep nagging, though. I also think I may have a few pics and chassis nos which I will try to find.

driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
MP has a HUGE list of cars history adverts he has created from the early days
i know he will not give over the info but he will of course be able to spill beans on the iffy cars when they apply for fia papers or duplicate chassis numbered cars appear
data is around for those who REALLY need to know

dont forget B6 cars where also built plus 1 B4 or 5 and was it a B12 with brm or climax 2,5 litre motor all look like B8 cars
the 2 1 off cars have been found being restored

Drfitwood, B12 had a Brabham Repco engine. There are rumours that it has "remerged" in Germany, where was it was last reported (long ago) to have been involved in a crash.

Seddon competed in the RAC championship at Oulton and Croft. Drove the Targa and 1000ks at the Ring with John Raffo. All these in 1971. I'm sure he came from up North.

I think we are slightly crossed. This car only ran in 71 with Seddon. His name is Roy. The Alex one is Seldon. Yes I bought and sold a few B8s and the Reg Phillips B19 in the late 70s.
I'll keep looking, but thanks anyway.

Reason for the request is that according to records from Andreason chassis 56 was driven by Seddon/Raffo.
Apart from this 56 can be traced back to when it was new.
Would be good to contact them.

Chevron B8 in rally trim

Two “ex-racing” B8s debuted on the Galway Rally in February 1973. One was driven by Alec Poole (+ Fennell) registered 44 JRI and the other by Mick Dolan (+ Blaney?). The former retired with a blown engine and the latter with suspension problems. (MN 15-2-73 and 22-2-73)

Both were entered on the Circuit of Ireland but Alec Poole changed his entry. Mick Dolan and Jim O’Brien’s car sported a ‘shortened “Monaco-type” nose. On one stage they had to use a narrow tyre on the back when one of the 14 in wide ones punctured.
(MN 3-5-73)

Can they be identified?

In addition for sale in 1973 in Motoring News -

For sale (MN 26-4-73)
Chevron B8 GT chassis no. 73, immaculate, little used example, could be converted to Spyder version, £750, Portsmouth.

For sale (MN 5-7-73)
Chevron B8, taxed, rolling chassis or complete with 1600GT engine and Hewland gearbox, £700 or £950, phone 021.

Chevron B 6 & B 8

I've been asked this afternoon by period B8 racer Barrie Smith for the history of the Chevron B8 that won the Guards Trophy race at Donington yesterday. I've looked in the usual places but can find nothing on this car. Can anyone on the forum help?

I dont want to sound overly pedantic here but when you say 'looked in all the usual places' I'd be interested to know how extensive your research was as neither myself nor Racing Fabrications have had a call and both our names are plastered over the car!

Also, as much as I like the idea that someone is interested in my gorgeous B8 I am slightly miffed that the implication on your post is that it doesn't have a history. So.... I have spoken to Ian at Racing Fabs who has suggested I get a dossier generated by the guys at oldracingcars.com to give a detailed account of her history. In the meantime I can however give you the basics.

My car is no: CHDBE 38 (if you come over to look whilst I'm in the pits my bodywork is often up and I have absolutely no issues with anyone having a look). She was hill climbed by David Good in the 70's (who stopped racing in 1974). He then sold the car to Gary Dunkerly in South Africa in 1984 who kept her and raced her there. He eventually sold her to Simon Leighton and John Taylor in 2004 who shipped her back to the UK. Ian Jones at Racing Fab then helped rebuild her in 2006 and she was raced in her Yellow colours as No:42 by Simon (and possibly John) until 2009 when she was sold to me. My first race was at the Gold Cup in 2009 at Oulton.

I have the original bodywork from her time in SA and I've attached a photo.

Hopefully the guys at oldracingcars can dig out some photos from the 60/70's.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
Nick
