Two Australians involved in NASCAR in '06?
It looks like Marcos Ambrose won’t be the only Australian in NASCAR next year.
Australian businessman Craig Gore is believed to be on the verge of extending his world motorsport empire to include a NASCAR team. While Gore has gone to ground, it is believed that he has been in the US this week putting pen to paper on several deals, based around his Team Australia marketing idea which was kicked off in the Champ Car World Series last year. Gore has used the V8 Supercar Series in Australia to increase the turnover of his WPS financial Services business by a reported $400 million after just two seasons of operation. The mail is that part of the expansion plan is the development of an Australian Pavilion. Details on this project have been kept pretty tight, but it is believed to be a traveling road show concept which will “sell” Australian companies and their products throughout the US at major events on a weekly basis – including major motorsport events – and they don’t come much bigger than NASCAR. The money generated from this project will help bankroll the racing operations, but it will also be seen as the business centre for millions of dollars worth of trade between the US and Australia. Gore has used Team Australia in the Champ Car World Series to promoted several Australian brands, including that of Aussie Vineyards which is apparently about to finalize agreements to export its first 100,000 cases of wine into the US. Obviously NASCAR would provide a massive US audience for his plans and where there is smoke there is usually fire with this guy. |
