Vi Selby

I am delighted to announce that Vi Selby has been awarded a Gold Badge.

Vi will be known to many startline marshals in the midlands as the lady who taught them how to do it! Vi has been marshalling for more years than most of us have been on the planet and her upgrade to Gold is extremely well deserved.

As far as I know, Vi is the only lady marshal to have been honoured with a Gold Badge.

Congratulations Vi - from the Committee and Members of BMMC Midlands.

Never met Vi (I don't think) but have spoken with her on the 'phone a couple of times.
A lovely Lady - well done on the badge!

Well Done Vi,

This award is extremely well deserved. I had the pleasure of working with Vi for many years on various startlines around the country.

When there was confusion on a grid you could turn to Vi for a calm and very experienced influence.

All I have to add is why did it take so long for people to recognise her achievements.

I can tell from the postings that this is great news and an honour so congrats

However, what's a golden badge? (and if anyone says "it's a badge made out of gold" you're on dishes for the next 2 weeks!).

Just a bit of history, what it stands for, why it's awarded and who awards it would be great

Why explain it when someone has done it much better previously:

A Senior Official can be assumed to have been, and usually, still is a, Clerk of the Course, Chief Marshal, Chief Observer, Steward etc: One can not apply for the grading, it is awarded normally by recommendation by a Regional Committee, thence being ratified by the BMMC National Council
