Bridgestone Burns

At the factory in Japan today

Bridgestone burns!

As if Bridgestone didn’t enough problems at the current time, with a fierce battle on the Formula One track, a fire is blazing in the north of Japan as one of their tyre factories burns to the ground, the enormous fire destroying all in its path at the F1 supplier’s factory.

For more than seven hours a helicopter and 60 fire engines fought the blaze that was totally out of control. There was no immediate reason for the fire and luckily the 850 employees managed to escape unharmed. However, the surrounding residents of the Japanese factory were not quite so lucky.

The burning rubber has caused irritation to resident’s eyes and throats with many having to be hospitalized and to make sure that no one else would be put at risk, Japanese authorities evacuated 5000 people from the immediate surroundings

This is what happens when things start to go wrong or someone is not happy with you.

I think it's not fair to joke about that; let's rather hope that nobodyhas been seriously harmed by fire and smoke

Unfortunately it sums up Bridgestone's year, i'm rather suprised it took them so long to evacuate local residents as a fire of that magnatude with rubber & so on is a very dangerous & potentially lethal situation.

Sorry for Bridgestone there.

They havent really done anything wrong, the main problem was Ferrari - Contacting and pushing the FIA.

I hope the fires can be stopped, at minimal destruction will follow.

This is a later report from pitpass

Bridgestone fire doesn't affect F1
8-09-2003

A fire has broken out at Bridgestone's massive factory north of Tokyo.
Spokesperson Rachel Ingham tells pitpass that thankfully there are no reports of casualties and that the fire has been contained where it broke out, in the area where raw materials are mixed.

Ms Ingham also confirmed that the fire was nowhere near the Formula One department.

Reports that several Frenchman, a Colombian and a Finn were spotted playing with matches nearby, remain totally unconfirmed.

All I want to do is make a comment about Bridgestone's performance in hotter temperatures...
