Opposite Lock should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Can't believe I've been on the net all these years, yet only stumbled on this site by accident/serendipity. That Russian site posted in a recent thread is fantastic.

The first F1 race I ever saw (on TV) was Monaco, 1970. Seeing Rindt, for no apparent reason, up his game and drive on the very ragged edge, up to two seconds faster per lap than he qualified, was mind-blowing, and I've been an ardent fan since then.

Living in Hong Kong (originally from Dublin), I'm just a couple of hours from Malaysia (great track, but hot as hell for spectators) and Japan (too expensive for my budget). Was in Melbourne for the inaugural GP as well. Rest of the time I have to catch the action on Star TV.

Anyhoo, just saying hello. I look forward to adding input to some of threads here.

And...I'll try not to use the word "coward" in any of my posts.

Welcome OL and Jmon. Hey OL, whereabouts do you live? Did you go to the Sevens? I used to live above HK stadium at Jardines Lookout. Do you sail? I used to sail out of the RHKYC. At least you get quals on Star - we don't get quals in Oz. Enjoy your stay here.

Welcome to the forum OL and Jmon.

Opposite, I'm roughly the same vintage as you,my first season of active fanaticism being 1971. I was a dedicated fan of JYS and still think that he is the paradigm for a a professional racing driver. Saddly, my first F1 Memory is Bandini's horrific crash at Monaco in '67. I remember not wanting to eat dinner that night and sleep plagued by nightmares.
Somehow, though, I've learned to accept the tragedies along with the Glories. Though being a fan in the '70's was a pretty grim exercise.

Anyway, welcome aboard.

Valve Bounce...I live in Shek O village - HK island south. Didn't go to the Sevens this year because Ireland couldn't be arsed to send a team, but I usually go. Don't sail, but a good friend (Aussie) is a sailmaker here.

EERO...yes, I agree about the 70s, starting with Rindt at Monza. That was the real shocker for me. He was my first hero.

Thanks for the welcome.

I know Shek O Village, used to swim there. Great restuarant there on the corner - they even gave me a box to sit my Chihuahua in. Too bad you missed the sevens.
