Eric Jensen Motorsports
A little birdie just told me to expect Jensen to announce this weekend that his new team will run a full season in 2005, not just the Canadian races. At least one driver (not verified) yet who will NOT need to bring sponsorship.
Hope this pans out, and hope that the driver is Valiante. Ted |

I hope its not Valiante if this is going to be a bargain bin Reynard project. It won't do his career any good.

Awesome news. Look foward to the news.
However will sitting on the sidelines do his career anygood? Look what haberfield managed to do with the Reynard last year. But you never know, it could be a Lola . |

Wouldn't that be great! I look forward to this weekend's media hoopla - hope we're not disappointed.

Ted, Can you give us a little bit of idea who this birdy was? eg. Someone connect to the team, a party with ties to the series (eg. someone from Molson), an intoxicated baker in a Chatham bar?
At this point extra cars are extra cars, nothing but gravy. Preferably we'd want to see them with a Lola, but a Reynard could be a springboard for a driver's career. The easy examples would be looking at Minardi in F1 and what it has done for the careers of some. Granted, now being 10 seconds off the pace I don't know that this will happen again in the future for anyone, but I hope you can see my point. |

If it's a ride that doesn't cost you anything, then you'd be a fool not to take it IMO. Hell, sign me up!

Thinking about it some more, he should take the ride if it comes up. He cannot afford another season out of the spotlight. But really, it's one thing racing against two or three other Reynards. It's another thing being stuck in one all by yourself.

I'd be very surprised if they managed to scrounge up a full season budget, and buy a Lola chassis.

I thought they had announced last year that they had purchased one of Mo Nunn's old Lola's?

Hopefully it will be a Lola but a Reynard is better than nothing. Eric Jensen may just pull off the sponsorhip for a season. He had built his connections over the years to do this. The hotel connection is an obvious one for racing. Hopefully his plan comes to fruition.

This would be brilliant news, even if it is a one-car Reynard team at first. When Eric originally discussed putting a team together he was talking about using young Canadian talent, so Valiente is the most likely choice. One minute there was a big panic over Canadian prescence in the series - now it looks possible that there will be four of their guys, all highly talented. Based on how Mario did last year the Reynard may not be a total dead horse anyway.

Norris MacDonald wrote a column about this team in today's Toronto Star. The sponsorship is coming from Konica-Minolta in Canada and a US sponsor to be announced for Long Beach. No mention of what car they will use.
Here is the article but you may have to sign in http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...acodalogin=yes |

It looks like they will be running a Lola. Looks interesting. A local team to support. |

Excellent news!
Another car onto the grid for the whole year....hopefully the beginnings of another top flight team too...... Maybe in a few years time there'll be two Jensen Motorsport cars on the grid.... OK, I'm being premature, this announcement is enough! And I like the cunning way of announcing the team with the Konica Minolta sponsorship first (as he expected to just run the Canadian races with them when he first came to the Champcar world's attention! ), then states there'll be further announcements about his American based sponser and his driver...... So that's the way to do it, two further times when his team will be the center of attention! |

A Lola no less. Great news.
I think Jensen's father, Bruce, was an Atlantic competitor in the Gilles era. |

I'm not sure there will be 19 cars - the chances are that someone else will have to find the funding to get onto the grid without OWRS-fare, so it's quite possible that someone like Coyne will only have one car. Either way, it's great to have some fresh and capable blood in the field - those of us who mocked Eric and assumed the team would enver come to fruition (including myself) will surely be happy to be wrong.

This is fantastic news as this will mean another car on the grid and a Canadian one at that. I hope M. Valiante will be EJ's driver.....he deserves it!! Ranger should be announced as Conquest's second driver on Monday and Rocketsports, Forsythe and HVM still have to announce their second drivers. I'm sure DCR will have two cars on the grid this year....it always works out in the end.
