MP4-xx. MP4 stands for McLaren Project Four. (In 1980 was a merger between McLaren Team and Project Four Racing.)

110m, is that 110 meters behind Ferrari then, i would've thought that Mclaren would be more optermistic than that!

Well, according to reports they will get more than 920 bhp@19,700rpm. If that translates in 110 m behind Ferrari, I believe that that's why the Beemer's code name is P83OLB (one lap behind)

I hope that the new Mclaren will actually be AT LEAST 110m AHEAD of the Ferraris, and that it leads to some close racing.
What does the BMW code stand for? Last edited by Smokey 6 litre; 14 Mar 2003 at 13:04. |

Perhaps it is this:
F0 = Formula One 110 = Series of engine M, N, O, etc = Version derivative of the series. |

Hmm... maybe P83 is an 83 degree vee? while Mercedes has been keeping the hell quiet that it, too, is using a wide vee of 110 degrees? Maybe the bore dimension? Who knows.

FO=f1
110 =10 definitely means 10 cyl-the first one?Prob the first of something..series one? M,N,O=these are definitely the model.Way back in '97 they had their first truly dominant engine (the 'G' spec),the letters have simply continued,allthough they did drop several because they needed to make a bigger jump at times |

FO= Formula One? Isn't Mercedes a German company? Then it would be FE.
Of course Illmor is British and hence the english code. Also BMW stands for Bayerische Motern Werke, Stephen, you wiener schnitzle, you. |

To add to Red's comments about the MP4-xx designation, the numbers are a strict numerical ordering, MP4-1 through this year's MP4-17D and MP4-18.
