Getting Started
How do I go about getting started in marshalling in California? I've been a racing fan forever and want to take it to a different level. I want to eventually be a marshal in CART (Long Beach, Laguna Seca and California Speedway).
Are there schools for this? Do I have to join a specific organization? I've tried to find info but haven't been successful. Thanks in advance. |

Glad to hear that you want to become a marshal. I guess first of all, a decision of which form of marshalling you wish to do would be best:
Observing Flags Rescue Fire Recovery Medical Sound Control Timing Scruitineering I'm totally unaware of how the US system works, but you could try the Sports Car Club of America at www.scca.org, it seems to me that they'd be a good entry point. |

The main page for Sports Car Club of America is www.scca.org look for Regions on the Web. One of the larger SCCA regions is www.calclub.com
The So Pacific Divisional web site is www.scca.sopac.org click on Officials - I would recommend Flagging & Communications as you best place to start. There is also an umbrella organization on the West Coast called United States Auto Race Marshals (USARM) their website is www.usarm.org Most of these clubs are very active and can get you aimed in the right direction. |

Ive sent you a PM with all the details you should need. Good luck, and if you're ever in the UK, Brands Hatch is either the track nearest London, or it's the housing complex that used to be ....

Isn't it nice to hear from our international bretheren now & then.
I second Stoo's motion to welcome Camcart to the fold - look up the circuits in the UK next time you're the other side of the pond. There's a warm welcome awaiting you! |
