Now Can I Start the BARC Classic Raceday Mallory Park 7th April Thread?

I've got an entry. I've got a licence but I still don't have a car.

Lorna should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
And do you see this as a slight problem or are you hoping to run round the track making all the right noises of a car and be blue flagged all the time?

If you do manage to get the whole equation, I, unfortunately, will not be able to make that weekend as night out in Birmingham with friends is already planned.

Keep those invites coming, though, Pete

Sorry Pete, was looking forward to Mallory on the 6th... but seeing as it's the 7th now I'm afraid I'll be at Cadwell!

It's 18th and 19th May but I don't know the running order yet. We may well have practice on Saturday and racing on Sunday.

I don't race, but I should be driving a 1/10th scale radio control model around the paddock, etc. I'm trying for it to be a buggy, but its probably going to be a saloon car. try and spot me.....

BTW, is the paddock smooth at Mallory?

I have an entry confirmed for Mallory - the only issue is that a front suspension strut spilled it's fluid at Thruxton, and they need to be reconned and returned for the meeting.

Group 1 seems to be a full grid again.

Stacy,

What happened to Will?

Good show with your Tango-mobile. Love the exhaust bangs on throttle lift.

Class D showed good promise with 6 cars entered but with 3 novices entered and both Golfs crying off sick it was less impressive and I noted that the winning class D car was 4 seconds down on Rick's (XR3) lap record.
On other news - Garretts Camaro sure is impressive...he absolutely walked Post Historics.

You'll be needing your 'monster truck' ride-height and suspension..

I'll be racing at Cadwell, so I won't be able to make it Peter, you're just going to have to enter a few more races this year!

There was far more lifting than is healthy from me..

Will had an overheating problem. That's what you get for not testing I suppose, he'll no doubt call me later with the news. He suspects a cracked block, but hopefully it's less terminal than that.

I understand Peter Nixon had engine problems with his Golf too. Funny old game.

Nigel's Camaro was very very impressive. He's not had it long and from the short time we shared the track he showed power, handling and traction. Brian will have his work cut out..

Well only a few days to go and I’ve actually seen and driven my car for the first time in 18 months!!!

We took the car to Mallory Park today so that I could re-acquaint myself with its idiosyncrasies. However there were none. All the old snap oversteer had disappeared and it was drifting through the esses. Well, it was after I’d got a little more used to brakes that work. I was braking at my old spot and slowing down so much I was driving through the corners to start with.

One fly in this particular ointment. I’m about twenty-five bhp down on what I got from the old engine and as we’ve only changed bearings and rings and the cam shaft, it has to be the camshaft. That said I was running under a second away from my previous best so, once the cam is sorted it should move me up the grid. That won’t be until Brands Hatch though so once again I’m an also ran this weekend.

Grrr. Well, at least you have a car, Pete, and you've had a chance to drive it.. With better brakes, and no snap oversteer, you may be able to make your way through the grid (?)

Actually whilst I was sloow it was great to finally drive a Capri which steered and even drifted! I reckon I can get another second or two out of it as it sits with a bit more practice and confidence. (The brakes are really so good). I only got thirty laps in and ten of those were on the new tyres which we were experimenting with. We now know what pressures to run so the handling should be improved even more for Sunday.

So, I'm looking forward to meeting the guys again. Eighteen months is a long time out of the saddle. A revised/new camshaft should make Brands in May a good event.

I'm so pleased you've managed to get your car back Pete. Any longer and you would start having to go to the C of C new driver briefings again !
Unfortunately we won't make it as I have to build a new roll hoop into the back end of the Haggis. (a) That involves a lot of work unstiching stressed panels etc to gain access and do the work, and (b) I'm having to work through the anomalies of the Blue Book to get a ruling on the dimension of the bar we can run, (that's because Clubmans are "Sports Racing Cars" not single seaters), it's taken 1 1/2 weeks to get hold of someone at the MSA and they're not totally clear on it. Still the thing to do seems to be to make the bar better than the regs then there shouldn't be any argument.
So we are going to try hard to be at Croft for the 27th - but then that's another thread.
Brands is a 2 day event but according to Dale Wells most people will practice and race on just one day, unless you have a double header. We're out just on Sat but I'll probably go back on Sun to see the BOSS cars.

I still have to change the front pads, get the rear lights working, put on the new number backgrounds & put some wiring in for the transponder. Anyone know if the rented ones come with a battery????????????
