MG accident at Silverstone

Apparently there was a hefty shunt at the MG meeting at Silverstone on Saturday. Can anyone confirm that the drivers are ok??

I was marshalling opposite the accident.

If this is the one u mean then it involved one car, which appeared to suffer driver failure, with the rumours at the moment being that he suffered a heart attack.

All i know at the moment is that the driver was alive when he left the circuit for northampton general.

Hopefully i will have some more information after the weekend.

I've received some more information:

"Whilst competing in his MGB at Silverstone on Saturday 5th April, Gerry Thorn suffered an as yet unknown medical problem and pulled off the circuit on the last lap of the Thoroughbred Sportscar race.

The medical team was on the scene immediately and found that Gerry had stopped breathing and had no pulse. He was resuscitated in the Silverstone Medical centre and taken from there to Northampton General Hospital. At 10pm on Saturday night he was transferred to another hospital (Leicester) for further tests and evaluation.

As of Tuesday afternoon, he hasn't yet regained consciousness and remains in a critical condition."

Motorsport News have indicated that after pulling off, his car 'brushed the wall', and that he's currently in a 'stable condition'.

I hope he makes a complete recovery, and my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

According to recent reports the driver in question is still on a life support machine.

I hope that he makes a fully recovery

I'm sorry to report that Gerry Thorn sadly passed away on the 25th of April. He'd been in a coma since the accident on April 5th. Apparently after the heart attack, the blood supply to his brain was interrupted for too long, causing major brain damage.

I'm sure we all extend our deepest sympathies to the family in this very difficult time.
