Tony Bardy announces planned Rallycross Return in second Supercar Astra

Tony Bardy announced plans today in the Motorsport News for a return to Rallycross in 2005. Tony bought both Astras but sold one to Evans as we know. It goes on to state that evans car will be ready for the 2004 British Rallycross GP and Bardy will be out in 2005 as they are both undergoing full rebuilds. Bardys car is being funded partly by an "silent" backer. Evans is also having his Astra converted to right hand drive according to the article.

Yeah, had as feeling that might happen!! They're certainly taking their time rebuilding those cars though....1 year for Evans' and 18 months for Bardy's!!! What is Evans going to do all next season then....Micra again???

Looks likely now i guess. The Micra also took about 16 months to build. The Motorsport News states Bardy seeks perfection...if it takes a year then i would expect a world beater. The 99 car wasnt in that bad a state. Bardy must be doing the full works in rebuilding it.

Oh...and don't expect the cars to built on time if Bardy's involved. Remember the Escort for Haffey, Evans' Micra and we are still waiting for the reappearance of the same Escort in the hands of Holfeld!!

Apparently Tony is a bit of a perfectionist!!

..at least we will get another quality driver back in Bardy. Great to see him in a top class Supercar - something he deserves after his success in the sport.

I could never understand why he never moved up to the top class when he was having so much success in his 2 litre Astra, although i do remember him racing it in Euro division 2 once or twice against the group B cars.....think it was in either Holland or Belgium.

I'm sure it must have been financial because i'm certain he would have gone into grp A in 1993 instead of using that Sunny GTi-R in grp N if he could have afforded it.

Very talented driver and drove the Moloney Escort pretty quick at the Euro Superprix in 2001.

Yeap Bardy took his Astra to Valkenswaard against the Group B cars. 1991 & 1992 he did that. It would have been to do with costs, as he was the second best driver in the Sport at the time (behind Gollop). He showed so much potential in the Nissan taken second place in the ERC at Croft in 1994. also had many other a final appearences with the Nissanin the European series. it just a shame he never got the chance in Supercars until now. It was also ashame that the Moloney Escort was unreliable at the Superprix as he could have run Haffey close in 01.

Now Bardy might be able to show the world how good he is. He will have the 01 spec car the latest of the two cars (the one that was damaged in 02 ERC in Norway)

He actually says on the recent Men and Motors rallycross programme we have purchased the ex Steinar Joranli Astra Super car then says the words a pair of Astras so could Bardy have the other one? we will have to wait and see

That was on the other post, see it did come true and both cars are being taken back to bare shells and totally rebuilt

Excellent news, another car in the top level category and it should be very much on the pace. It's only a shame we'll have to wait so long to see it.

There's an article about the Chris Evans Micra in the Motorsport news as well - very interesting.

I can remember Tony Bardy first starting in rallycross, he bought a 16v Leyland Mini off Trevor Reeves went like **** that little beasty, custard yellow number 107. He's always been an excellent driver and I for one will be very pleased to see him back.

In the words of Bianca from Eastenders cheers "RIXIE"

I thought Chris would of bought them and has Bardy bought the other or is he renting or taking the other one off him as a part payment for rebuilding Chris's

Is great news about the Astra's, not so great to find that they are nor gonna appear for a while.
As you guys say, either they are knackered which wouldn't surprise me from the Europeans, or Bardy is just gonna rebuild them completely anyway.
Duno about Bardy being the second best driver behind Gollop though! Fairly bold claim that Pete!!

The story with the cars not being released for some time is that chris's car is getting converted from Left hand drive to right hand drive, as everyone knows the Astra in rallycross is an un-proven car. The engines are being striped and rebuilt, the cars are getting Dip-striped apparently (Bardys car getting a new shell).

Thats all i can say guys, will inform you of any updates as always
