All Van Diemen RF90 RF91 + RF92 owners

I'm currently looking at having a French model maker make a model in 1:43 scale (Same scale to minichamps) of my RF90.

This would prove very expensive as a one off, however, he is prepared to do
a rather good deal if I order resin kits. For this he would make an original model and then form resin casts of it. These could be supplied in resin kit form or could be supplied completely built with correct colour schemes and decals in their own presentation box. (Just like mini champs)

Anyone interested in a model of your own Van Diemen RF90,91 or 92 or perhaps a car you have owned in the past?

If we can get enough interest the cost would be a lot cheaper than you would expect.

No but it can come with a photographer sprawlled all over the nose cone....

Diz..........no comment (OK i'll get me coat) whislt on the weight topic though the kits would be formed from resin and would be quite heavy. They are not "Airfix" type models. They are solid moulded resin.

Just thought of another guy you might want to look at - Rob Ijbema.
Dutch guy lives in the UK, known him for 20 years. He made models for most F3000/F3/FF teams back in the 80s. He mainly does paintings now rather than modelmaking but has links to models on his site.

Last time I saw him was at the Goodwood Revival 2 years ago. His young son had won the design-a-car competition at the Festival of Speed. His prize was to have his design built, at the Revival by Lord March's engineers and Stirling Moss drove the lad around in it before the crowds!

I've got an e-mail in to him asking if he still has the mould and is he is willing to sell or hire it. I'll wait to see what I get back. Looks like he has already done a RF92 though
which is good news.......all I would have to do is sand off the mono shock bubble on the nosecone.........EASY.!

I'll wait until I have a list of interested names over the weekend before taking this any further. As it will probably all come down to price in the end.

So anyone else out their interested in an RF90 RF91 RF92 (They all pretty much look alike) please register you interest on this thread so that I have a better idea of numbers.

Roll hoop would need to be changed and side windows would need to be removed for a 90. Jus roll hoop for 91

All minor stuff in terms of model building, and reletively easy to change by a moderately skilled modeller. I'd even have a go myself.

It's just the main boday and getting the right shape that is more important the small details are just that, small details. The models would be close enough for me.

The top commissions charge fortunes to get it absolutely perfect. I will just be buying what every I can get our of the RF90-92's and make any small ammendments myself if I think it warrants the work. I'm personally not that bothered.

Depends on the modeller I will use as I am looking at 2 now, however, yes is a straight forward answer.........you can have watever you want to pay for, I guess then you would be needing the base of the display case mirrored to show of your added investment.

Well he should be Andrew, he used to build his own racing cars (size 1/1), the TOJ sportscars, and was a very good driver too.

JD your RF90 exhaust would probably have to be modified by you in order to get it exiting the car where Van Diemen intended in 1990, however, I have it on very good Van Diemen authority that it was realised that the car would perform better with the exhaust coming out of the side as the engine was sucking in cooler air. VD went on to tell me that this was an easy fix in 90/91 and nearly everbody made the modification as VD supplied a "retrofit" kit to do it. It is for this reason that I would commission the kit with the more common "side exiting" exhaust.

Incidentally, for anyone interested, the chap that came up with side exiting exhaust idea at VD was a South African that now works for B.A.R. F1. ..............He didn't do too bad then,did he?
