Bill Boddy
It is with great sadness that I found out today reading the VSCC website that Bill Boddy passed away today at the great age of 98, as an avid reader of Motorsport for very many years perhaps this fitting link to their tribute will remind us all of what great influence this gentleman was - RIP

Very sad to hear, but also a remarkable man and a remarkable life.
Surely he must hold the world record for longest period writing for one magazine. Not to mention employment by a certain employer. I found it astonishing that he continued to crank out the volumes of work he did. It's quite amazing that before even my grand parents were born he was writing for Motorsport and still was just recently. |

The articles remained interesting to the end. What a timeframe he spanned, how much must he have seen?

Very sad news and my condolences to Bill's family and many friends. He was a supurb journalist and his outspoken views were always worth reading. He WAS Motorsport magazine for so many years and laid the foundation of the publication that we know and love today. He was also a gentleman; an often overlooked attribute but he was a product of his generation when such views and behaviour were accepted as normal.
I hope he won't be forgotten and that his Rolleiflex will continue to fit in the glovebox of whatever transport he has at his disposal. RIP Bill |

An absolute legend; I don't think there is much likelihood of him being forgotten, John. I grew up on a diet of his words, and old issues of MotorSport continue to be a source of delight, much of it down to Bill Boddy. 98 is a great innings but it is still a sad event.
RIP Bill Boddy. |

Very sad news. Not much to add to the comments above, other than thank you for providing so much information, history and education.
RIP Bill. |
