Worst driver line-ups in F1 history?
Sounds like a fun thread for the off-season. Inspired by Marussia's rumoured 2013 line-up with Chilton/Razia.

Ya never know, Razia could surprise. He did very nearly win the gp2 title until he fizzled out in the last 2 rounds. Not many gp2/f3000 champions don't reach F1.

Razia & Chilton are both perfectly competent.
It's just that last year's GP2 grid was probably the weakest since it's inception in my opinion. |

Pretty sure you could find some rather interesting ones in the late 1980s/early 1990s pre-qualifying era!

You'd have to go back to the fifties were you'd get garage owners, business executives, car dealers..etc
Guys like Ide, Inoue, Deletraz, Lavaggi aren't up to much but guys like Nakano, Baumgartner, Albers, Moreno, Sospiri are good middle of the road pilots. |

Surely Alliot and Arnoux, or Arnoux and Jarier, they must have driven together! If so they would cause so many crashes!!
I thiknk BAR made some horrendous choices, Zonta was never world class Also Toyota never really got anyone top class in their car, Ralf never really showed much at Williams after Montoya left, and Trulli was a hot lapper!! |

I didn't really follow F1 that closely in '98, but I thought Tuero was decent?

Zonta won F3000 and the FIA GT Championship - if that's not world-class, what is?

No, and not by a long way. *Thinks back to pre-qualifying days* |

what about if you say, worst lineups in the context of who was overlooked for the drive? for example, this year has to rank quite highly because timo glock and heikki kovalainen were dumped in favour of razia and van der garde. both of whom were initially overlooked themselves in the first "round" of rent-a-drives. i don't think going back to pre-qualifying will bring up that kind of situation? or will it...

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more unfortunate pairing than Claudio Langes and Roberto Moreno.

What - unfortunate that Moreno was paired with Langes? There are names in this thread who were far far worse/less deserving than Roberto, surely?

For what purpose? Winkers the pair of them, IMHO. Last edited by Clive Brown; 1 Feb 2013 at 18:52. |

[QUOTE=Marcus666;3197046]Pacific lineup 1995 - Gachot/Lavaggi/Deletraz/MonterminiQUOTE]
Gachot and Montermini were decent drivers, Lavaggi and Deletraz....... you have a point. |

Beppe Gabbiani and Giorgio Francia, Osella 1981.
Eric Van der Poele and Giovanna Amati Brabham 1992 anyone? |

Razia and Chilton somehow reminds me the pairing of Corrado Fabi and Ghinzani, Osella 1983.

The lot racing for Marussia ranks up there, that's for sure! Razia isn't any good, and neither is Chilton. Caterham's line-up isn't much better either. Those two teams are guaranteed to score zero points again. What a joke!

Except that those two were actually decent! Decent enough to be hired and paid. They won championships and didn't take 5 years to do it, either! Razia was the worse driver in GP2 his first two seasons. Worse! Comparable to Guido Dacco if you want to go back to the C.Fabi, Ghinzani era.
