My SCSA idea............
Ive got some ideas about SCSA for 2007.
There is no doubt that the series could do with getting out and about a bit more but there is a lack of ovals, or is there? How about doing some “stadium” meetings? Places on my wish list are Ipswich, Wimbledon, Henesford and maybe Lydden. Ok I realise that the first three I have mentioned are small ovals but even NASCAR race on some ½ mile ovals. Just think, how good would night races be at some where like Wimbledon? And it’s also in the heart of London so it would be attractive to sponsors. Yours thoughts? What do you think Bert and Sam? |

My point exactly.
Lydden is about 3/4 mile and i forgot to mention mallory that im sure is a mile long. Races like the London 100 ( two races of 50 laps?) or "Ipswich dash for cash" 1000 (pounds) sound cool to me. Also dont forget mose of the guys out there come from the short ovals anyway. Some might moan about the fences but what costs more? a few bent fenders or a 150mph slam into the wall? |

With the exception of Mallory and Lydden, I believe that any short oval hosting a SCSA race would require a MSA licence, which may prove to be a stumbling block in moving the series away from Rockingham.

The issue with Wimbledon is that the fence is wire - which is down to the circuit being used as a dog track. And that would be dangerous for the SCSA cars.
A race in the capital would be great - no two ways about it. Crystal Palace?????? How about getting Ken to build a 1/2mile oval in Hyde Park! The other issue is that none of the short ovals have pit areas on the infield. I'm sure that there will be some announcements regarding the SCSA in coming weeks. New teams coming in too..... Rob. |

Minicross, with respect have you ever raced a quarter mile oval, you cannot compare it with a halfmile, its half the size! You would not want to take one of those lumps of metal around one I tell you. Now a better idea have some Road Course (circuit to you and me) races on conventional circuits like they do in NASCAR now that would liven it up a bit.

Yes thanks for asking Al.
I was brought up with spedeworth, raced Autograss between 1991 and 1996, won the kent juinor championship and three club championships before moving to stockrods and racing there untill i run out of money before turning to minicross and now circuits. So yea i know a thing or two. May i also point out that when eurocars first appered they raced at henesford and Birmingham wheels. Ipswich does not have a fence, it has concrete walls like Rockingham. |

Hednesford is more like a third of a mile isn't it? I have raced a few of them and unless you have deep wallets and a friendly panel beater I just don't think its on, nice idea but impractical IMO K for an armoured stockcar but not for saloons, incidently I read on another pot Shuiee has been offered 10million dollars todrive a round of NASCAR on a road course and I really do not understand why SCCA are not actively persuing that route, I reckon it would be brilliant.

I dont think they need the big names as such, the guys that are committed is well good enough but like the PickUps get them out for some round on the circuts, have you ever watched a NASCAR Road course race, its very entertaining as a rule. |

I agree with road courses, perhaps Brands Hatch, Knockhill, Snett.
I supose if i was making the 07 calander it would be some thin like this: April Rockingham May Brands Hatch June Ipswich (at night) July Rockingham August Knockhill 2 day event? September Mallory or Lydden October Rockingham grand final Thoughts? |

i believe that was suggested back in the Eurocar days and the MSA wouldn't have a series that runs on short ovals.

One thing I would like to see come in is a change in the rules to the same as the current ASA Late Model rules, where you can have a Ford engine, or a Mopar unit, you have a difference chassis to the Howe one, but it's all kept tight in the regs.

i second that racing59. i think it would make it a more viable option. do the engines they run now still have to be built by Mountune?

May Rockingham June Rockingham June Lausitz July Rockingham August Rockingham August Lausitz September Rockingham October Rockingham One of the Rockingham dates will be Ovalfest07 While it's a MSA licenced series, it will only run on MSA or FIA affiliated circuits. There are reservations within the teams/drivers about running on the old short ovals. The only one almost suitable is Hednesford with it being 1/3 mile, but to be honest, with no infield pit area, it just ain't suitable. We need Silverstone to build a banked 1/2mile oval. Mallory needs to get rid of the hump at the top end, and increase the size of the pits, then it might be suitable - but being a road course masqerading as an oval, there's no wall/barrier around the outside of the track. Rob. |

The ASA Late Model series has sanctioned engine builders who are licenced to rebuild the "crate" engines as supplied by GM/Ford/Mopar. But with a country as vast as the US you wouldn't be expected to use just one builder for everything - also because of the number of competitors too! (stolen from the ASA rules) Approved Engines A. GM part number 88958604 $5249 from Gilbert Chevrolet B. Ford part number M-6007-D347SR $7249 from Performance Parts C. Dodge part number P5007958 $7445 from Galeana Wholesale D. McGunegill Ford part number ASA 425 LM $6895 Obviously, there would be shipping and import duty on top, but they'd be a darned sight cheaper than the Vortec LS1's that they run at the moment! Rob. |
