sunflower should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
static shock

Does anyone know why I keep getting a static shock whenever I get out my car & touch the painted parts of the door. I consiously have to remember to keep clear of the door & only close it using the plastic handle.

A little while ago I got a thought into my head & wondered how my car knows the headlights are on when you open the door. I stupidly touched the bare metal door catch & got the biggest, sorest, loudest shock ever, accompanied by a crackling blue spark! Not recommended.

I have carpet mats so maybe that is causing it, but I don't really like the rubber ones.

I only get static shock when I wear shoes that have nylon in them. I put my hand on the door catch before I start to get out so I don't get a zap.

Get a fiberglass bodied car!!
I always get shocks from our only metal bodied car on dry days unless I remember to keep a finger on an earthed part of the car (the ignition lock works quite well) while I put my foot on the ground outside....

It'll be to do with the shoes you are wearing. If you keep hold of the car as you get out, so you ground yourself before letting go you should avoid them.

I was mending the washing machine last week, standing in the water that it had just pumped out. I decided to tip it on its side but forgot to unplug it. I accidently touched the live conector and I was quite suprised that I only got a shock up my arm and am till around to tell the story.

My wife's car does this to me if I'm wearing Jeans. Curiously mine doesn't. Seat materials? Car earthing?
