French ERC.
Hi there Fellow members!
Are there many forum fellows making the Trek to the french round of the ERC,as there could well be a few of our top drivers taking part. Alll our crossings and places to stay are sorted, it would be nice to see a few more english and irish flags waving at the event. This year looks to be one of the best ever cant wait. |

Alencon is well worth visiting. From Cherbourg its about 3 hours and from Calais 4 hours. Great circuit for viewing as you can practically see all the circuit from anywhere. Plus the fact there are usually about 25,000 french shouting for all there national drivers.
Out of all the ERC events its definetley one of the best to visit |

Essay is a great circuit we were there in 95 for the Internations Cup.
We went via Portsmouth-Caen, It took us well under 2 hours from Caen to Alencon. |

Having decided to go to Essay (for the first time), I just booked P&O from Portsmouth (Fri 2230) to Le Havre (0800) returning Le Havre (Sun 2330) to Portsmouth (0600) for car plus 2 people including cabins for 200 quid all in. That seems like a very good price to me.
Any suggestions for nearby hotels for the Saturday night would be appreciated as I don't know that area at all. Ta.. |

Make sure the room is made up , as last time we used one the room was just left from the last user ! Perhaps thats why they are cheap?

Thanks for the tip off Chris!
Depending on how the weekend pans out and if we get to enjoy the bar at the circuit then we may just end up a kip in the car. What are your plans for this year, after your impressive outing in the Saab at croft such a shame it didnt hold together. |

The entry list is here ...
http://www.als-france.com/Rallycross/2005/Championnat%20d'europe/Liste-des-engage-tot.htm I thought I read in the press that McLuskey was also entering with support from Kenneth Hansen's team. Don't see him in the list though.... Really looking forward to it all the same. |

This is proper rallycross, huge entries, big money backing from major manufacturers, I wonder what it is that the French team do that we can not seem to get to over here.
ALl their classes seem to be growing dont they! I think that some of the classes cater for French cars like the Saxo,106 and Clio kit cars but you cannt blame them for taking advantage. Have never been to French meeting but on this evidence might make a special effort. If its anything like as well organised and laid out as Valkenswaard then should be a blinder |

Chunder, this is a European Championship event not a French Championship one.
The entrys for thier domestic events are very similar to ours in number, except in the first round of the French Champ's all the div 1. cars except one were French manufacturers. |

Thanks Bert MK2 & Lancaster for the entry list.
I`m hoping to make a first time trip abroad to see this round. Hope to spend the Friday doing the sight seeing bit. Is there anything people would recommend going to see? |

Another English flag will be there as Im not racing at Croft thought I deserved a weekend away !!!
As for sight seeing if youre into old buildings/towns and countryside then Normandy/Mayenne are full of them and lots of D Day places on the coast. But wherever you go sit outside a cafe and take in the pace of life because its a damn sight slower than at the circuit! Last edited by 206180; 27 Apr 2005 at 20:54. |

I was only saying that the French seem to ahve a really good grasp on what works in their championships.
I have spent a while on their website and yes they have similar entries, but they cars in them are far more varied and most of the clases are for modified cars aswell. The rench seem to have caught the bug as we did over here in the eighties and the Scandinavians did before that, is weird how it goes around. |

Its not just a big entry, its such a high class entry. In mainland europe there is a huge pool of top quality Div 1 rallycross cars, GB and IRE are getting towards that again, just need a few more additions to the Div1A and Div2, then we have an agument to have the ERC round back again, hopefully Lydden.
