72 Group 2 Caprimotor mounts
Hi all. Decided to start fitting my mock up motor and trans in the chassis. Does anyone have any pics of the group 2 motor mounts for 72. I am using a 2.9 Cologne motor and have found that the 2.6 mounts bolt right up to the 2.9 block in the correct position and also are in the correct position to mount to the frt crossmember. I will need to lower and strengthen them a bit,but I was wondering about the motor mounts themselves. What would work in place of the stock Capri 2 inch round rubber mount. I would like something with a little give to it ,but stronger. Thanks for the input.

In period they would have been chassis mounts I believe.

So solid between chassis and motor Greg? If so I'm alittle worried about the block becoming a stressed member.

There were reduced size mounts designed to lower the engine.

Thanks Greg and Peter. I plan on reworking the block side engine mount to lower the motor a bit. They need to be strengthened anyway. Do either of you see a problem wih using a a rubber or poly mount of the same dimensions.

The reason for them is three-fold: to lower and move rearward the engine; to allow the crossmember to be dropped from underneath without suspending the engine on the strut brace; to increase reliability by elimination the possibility of a 'sandwich' mount de-laminating (assuming your racing engine has increased torque from standard). Here's a kit for a different engine so you get the idea, you can make this all up yourself with a little patience. http://www.retro-ford.co.uk/shop/con...mount-kit-d003 |

As Peter says there was a shorter rubber mount available which was 1 1/2" instead of 2" and harder rubber if you wanted to retain the original mounts. It was used on RS Escorts etc. and had an RS part number.
Somewhere like 'Rally Design' may do an equivalent, as I doubt Ford still do it. |
