Dome To F1?
Dome is being linked to a move into F1 in 06 with a supply of Honda engines and the one man crash machine Sato as one driver.
Is this likely. would dome want to go F1? |

Only with huge Honda backing.
They wouldn't do it on their own back. They are a constructor, they'll build as many cars, for as many series, as they can sell. Can't help feeling F1 is selling its soul to the manufactuers. If Renault pullout (rumoured), the rest could fall like a stack of cards, with few privateers to fill the gap. |

Hasn't Dome been linked to F1 before? Mid-nineties? Vaguely remember something like that.
Would be next to their sportscar effort though I hope. |

Dome build the Honda GT500 NSX's don't they?
I don't think an F1 program would impact on their other business, as this program seems to be driven by Honda. |

Isn't Dome a bit like Zytek? Running a team themselves, but that being only a small share of their activities as most of it is for paying customers?

Dome is a racecar builder like Zytek, or Lola, or Dallara.
They build the GT500 Hondas and the GT300 Ferraris, and of course the LMP, they'll build you anything you want built. |

Isn't it getting on a bit in the year for an F1 car to be built in time for 2006?
Unless all of this has been happening very secretly... |

Dome built a prototype car during the unraced car boom of the mid nineties, it tested but I have heard - was not much cop.
However if Honda supply Dome the IPR to the BAR design Dome are easily capable of manufacturing a chassis |

Building their own team, albeit financed by Honda, would be senseless: as Midland case shows, setting up the racing team (mechanics, track engineers etc) is already extremely difficult for people from the business, lets' imagine for newcomers!
A totally different thing would be manufacturing the car on behalf of someone else, but I agree that as far as now, it weould seriously be possible only fro the 2007-on season, not before. |

Ok I thought I'd bring this back up as its a little relevant again.
Its funny reading that thread now and thinking of Super Aguri. to quote myself Quote:
Last year Dome opened a massive new F1 standard factory which is better equipped than the Honda base in Brackley. There is already a close relationship between Dome Honda and Aguri (Dome build and run the works Honda Super GT and F3 teams as well as running the Super Aguri - ARTA Formula Nippon team) they also do a lot of aero work for Honda R&D and F1 . On top of that they are a world leader in composites and are easily capable of producing an F1 car to current standards. To add fuel to my little thoery when I was at Dome in May the company owner - Hayashi-san hinted that "the new regulations may well see us back in F1 in some way". Just some food for thought. |

Is Dome even the dominant F3 car yet? If they can't be dominant in the market, how can they make a fast F1 car!

Fashion dictates that the Dallara F306 is the dominant force in F3 but the Dome F107 was definatley its equal if not superior.
