Wow, the CLR is a big surprise. Who owns it?

Ah, I had forgotten just how beautiful those cars were. So nice to see them in fine shape where they belong, on the track. I have a fair amount of nostalgia for those GT1s, being 10 and impressionable when the Mclaren first appeared.

Hi Mike, don't know, both were entered by the same german team, which wasn't looking pro. I would be surprised to learn taht Mercedes sold the 99 one, because of concerns about safety and because of the bad publicity they would get everytime this car is seen. Anyway I could take all the photos needed for the 99 type something you couldn't even dream in 99 at le Mans.

More photos on the Modena Days page, the C11 was also there and 2 Mclaren F1 (95 and 97).

I really liked the 98 CLR. The front end of the 99 one always looked weird to me. Very low.

So it was a private track day, not a race meet?
Thanks for the pics Ben! |

I'm very suprised to see a CLR shown in public, nevermind hit the track.
The '98 CLK-LM is still a great looking car, GT1 at it's best (while it lasted!). |

This look's like a similar test from a previous year.

The CLR was chassis 003 that raced under #6 at Le Mans and was withdrawn. The cars were certainly not run by anybody closely related to Mercedes-Benz. Perhaps HWA sold the cars quietly after Mercedes withdrew.

I remember looking at those additional winglets through binoculars on the grid at Le Mans after RLM mentioned that they had been added. Dad and I sarcastically said "that'll do it"...
