Fantastic crowd, 2-3000 I'd guess - queues for hot food/drinks were huge!
Lets hope it continues but with better weather. Just in case Knockhill are reading (they get the gate money, not SMRC): If you got the same revenue (2 people at half price) then the atmosphere was far better! PS - about time kids 12-16 got a discount - still have buy an adult pass for my eldest (or use a full competitors pass if I'm racing)! Rebuilt engine coming together - it'll be out on 5th May! |

Can I ask, where did everyone get the half price offers?
My pal and I recon we were the only ones who paid full price! |

promotion - two for the price of one. Others mentioned a similar deal on 5pm.co.uk. If I hear of any future offers I will add them to this site. |

Andy Smith continued his winning run from 2012, with victory in all three races
at Knockhill on 7th April, at the wheel of his Morgan +8. He did not have an easy time, pressured by the efforts of several front-running drivers which provided great entertainment for the unusually large crowd. Raymond Boyd, Tommy Gilmartin, Robert Marshall and Shonny Paterson were all within a few seconds of Smith at the end of each race. Close competition throughout the field added to a very entertaining day’s racing, which included several new cars and drivers. As mentioned in an earlier post, it was a pleasure to see Caroline McMurdo return in her Austin A30, after her qualifying accident during the first event of last season. Looking forward to a bigger field and similarly exciting racing at the next event, on 5th May. Rounds four and five at Knockhill on 5th May produced two first-time winners
in the championship. Harry Simpson, Ginetta G4 twin cam, won the first race, closely followed by Tommy Gilmartin, Morgan +8. Positions were reversed in the second race, with only 0.2 seconds separating the cars. Robert Marshall, Ford Escort RS1800; Stan Bernard, Porsche 911 and George Leitch, Ford Fiesta won their classes in each race. Entries are considerably lower than in recent years – sixteen cars at this event. This is a result of a combination of factors including: economic conditions, drivers retiring / moving to other Scottish championships / joining championships in England. Hopefully, the next two rounds on 23rd June will see more entries. What has happened to the "normal" winner? Has he moved on ?
Numbers are down, is there a reason for this? I know we decided to do something else this year and it looks like some others have done the same. |

I don't know the reason for regular winner, Andy Smith, being absent last weekend. He won all three races at the April meeting and will, as far as I am aware, compete during the remainder of this season. With regard to lower numbers, there a few possible reasons listed in a post above. |

Sadly Robin Benn's two cars were destroyed in a fire at his garage a couple of months ago.
I think the diverse variety of cars is good visually but not so good for the drivers, with big differences in performance between the 50s cars and the "newly built" Morgan for example. Also drivers like to race on a variety of tracks. Yt's always been a problem in Scotland and you see the same changes in the modern sports and saloon racers as folk come and go from year to year. What do you race Malcolm? |

Agreed, It's a great sight but the mis-match in machinery is massive.
And sometimes a bit dangerous..... |

I was sorry to hear about the fire at Robin's garage - hopefully he will build another Capri in future. I'm not a racer myself - mabye one day ! In the meantime, I spectate at as many classic and historic races as possible. You mention a "newly built" Morgan - which one is it? |

Hi malcolm. it was just you hace "racer" on your name tag.
I think you will find both the Morgans that have raced in recent years are effectively new cars. |

You also have a racer tag - many postings earned last season criticising scottish classics cars, regs etc Scottish classics is not HSCC and doesn't pretend to be. I doubt many of the best historic cars are not effectively new - a nut & bolt rebuild of an original often sources NOS parts or re-manufactures them. Some of us welcome the chance to compete without the costs that can be involved in historic racing. Please leave us to our fun without sniping and I hope you enjoy your own choice - we're all here (competitors, fans, marshalls etc) because we love motorsport - we all choose our part through budget, geography, talent and desire - please respect this. |

I've done my share of KH historics Mr Datapost but like many became fed up with the lack of rule enforcement. You only have to look a the number of Scots in the various historic races elsewhere to see I was not the only one. I don't do HSCC by the way.
When the winning classic is lapping faster than the winner of the modern sports/historics then you know something is wrong. The early KH classic festivals were goign in the right dorection but the poor organisation meant that the visiting series would not return. |

Scottish Classic competitors will need to try harder if they are to match the times of the modern sports and saloons -fastest classic lap is 58.1 seconds - modern cars lap time at Knockhill has been as low as 52.7 seconds. |

Spotted that - I'm going to be there to watch the Alfas so I hope there's a good turnout from the Scottish Classics to add some variety! |
