Molson Indy In Or Out ???
Yeah, I know, the title doesn't sound too good... but the question is being asked... since a couple of months ago (much longer actually) there's a family feud in Molson's hierarchy which now is resulting in scaling down which shall take effect next year or so... and the fate of Molson staying involved with Champ Car will be up in the air = http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/...iness/Canadian - please read carefully, don't get blinded by hockey
I'd say that about takes care of any chances of a fourth Canadian "Molson Indy" race any time soon... wonder if Bob Singleton reads "Sports Business Journal" ?! On a related note, check out this silly spew from McNulty = http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Motorsport...13/538238.html - now, keep in mind that McNulty is an IRL protagonist from way back - will never figure out "why" ...and whatever he says is not "news" just a commentary - our Canadian friends should e-mail all the publications that McNulty is syndicated with, don't bother writing him - he'll never change - zillions wrote him already... zerO Last edited by zerO; 13 Jul 2004 at 20:07. |

The first one while not exactly confidence inspiring does not make mention of the races.
For the second article: Really weak arguements. I could write a more convincing case and I clearly not infavor of the IRL taking over there. I like this part: "The records, in fact, show those teams and their drivers have won 14 of the 19 Indys in Toronto." I'm assuming they're counting Andretti's driving as counting towards his team. I think Al Jr. is in there too, despite being retired. His situation in joining the IRL was clearly different than the others. |

They couldn't get 10,000 people to an IRL race in Toronto OR Vancouver. We wouldn't go. People who aren't Champ Car fans just don't get it.

"As distasteful as that may seem to the hordes of fanatical Champ Car fans, deep in their hearts they must know it, too."
Zero? Any truth to that quote? Will TG/IMS/IRL buy these venues form Molson? |

Hmmm, so which is it? It would seem that most are there for the party, so would it matter what raced then? |

Oval fans watch the oval races. If they don't like the street races possibly a family outing will relieve whatever stress they endure while the cars make a few right hand turns.

McNulty is a .... er, entitled to his own opinion, which he whines at us every Tuesday. McNulty wants desperately to be taken in off the doorstep by the IRL and NA$CAR or perhaps he wants to be an American -- "However distasteful it may seem to fanatical Canadians, deep in their hearts they all know they REALLY DO WANT TO BE AMERICANS."
I routinely ignore everything he says, except to write him when he gets the drivers names, teams and nationalities wrong. As he frequently does. He has always written me back to apologize. Maybe 10,000 people who show up for a mythical IRL race in Toronto wil be the ones who get the free tickets Paul Gentilozzi has promised to buy? |

What, I would like to know, is so wrong with being an American?
I like being an American and I like living here. I also do not bash Canada, France, or Armenia because they are not America. I do not disparage journalists here who have opinions I do not like by saying: "He really does want to be a Ceylonian" or some such. Can we cease and desist with the nationality stereotypes? |

Hey John,
thanx for trying to blow this issue out of proportion... the crust of it is and always will be the comparison as to the amount of American presence in Champ Car - whether it is drivers, teams, sponsors, etc.... this issue is OMNIPRESENT in every single sport on this planet and especially in motorsports - nationality is ingrained in us and we always should be proud of it... AND... be able to converse about it in a manner that would not be offensive to anyone... and "stereotyping" will always be unavoidable - it's one of our traits - public expression of it is a different ballgame... food for thought... zerO Last edited by zerO; 16 Jul 2004 at 04:06. |

OWRS will be back in Toronto next year and for many years to come. Canada is, and always will be, one of the true homes of ChampCar racing.

Irrelevant! Please, racing is racing and race is of no consequence. If stagnation is the order of the day, then stay within certain borders. TG has come to understand that the All American series is too short sighted. Far too many people post to this forum to let it get reduced to this. Mods? |

someone implied there is something wrong with wanting to be american. it sure seems like there is something wrong with all the teams then. |

My comment was SARCASM. It is as likely that "deep in their hearts all Canadians want to be American" as it is that "deep in their hearts all Champ Car fans want to merge with the IRL."
I Am Pointing Out That It Is Foolish For McNulty To Say Such A Thing. Deep in our hearts we all just want to go racing. And as I have said before, although most Christian people agree that there should be one Universal Church Triumphant, there the concord ends -- because they cannot agree on WHICH church should survive. |

Speaking of "politics, sex, and religion don't mix" and getting back to topic - I wonder whether Molson and Coors will "mix" ?!... besides Molson contemplating "scaling down" their advertising expenditures now comes the issue of whether Molson will merge with Coors - and we all know that when they do then most likely the merged outfit's advertising programme will get overhauled as well ?!... so, either way the future of "Molson Indy" shall stay uncertain ?!... food for thought...
