The future of Zolder?

Taken from the official www.Circuit-Zolder.be website

Furthermore, it is our ambition to organise the Motorcycle Road Racing Grand Prix and to get the Belgian F1 GRAND Prix back to Zolder, the famous “racetrack designer” Tilke has already completed a study on how to make it possible. We will gradually develop the track to F1 standards. In 2001, phase 1 of our ambitious investment programme has started.

That's the main reason why our government is refusing tabacco ads because they think Zolder has a chance and because Zolder is Flemish territory and not Wallonian...

1973 : chicane in front of the hill
1975 : sharper Jacky Ickx chicane
1986 : ‘First left’ quicker, Gilles Villeneuve
chicane to slow down speed above ‘Tunnel’
1996 : Starting line wider and banking flatter,

Zolder is an inspirationless, dum dum track which is embarassing...

And that Tilke screw up will only make it worse than it is...

They will NEVER get back that GP
1. Zolder is a dull track
2. The track is too close to the village to attract much more racing.
3. The Flemish government and politicians never cared about motor sport. If possible, they'll impose even higher requirements.
4. Even if there are a lot of motorsport fans, people don't have a good opinion about the sport. The rally accidents in Belgium that happened in the last few years alienated them from our sport.
5. Bernie, or his succerssor, will ask too much money to stage the race.

So, it's hard to tell, but IMO, Zolder will never get back the GP.

If I hear the word "Tilke" once again, i swear I will take a gun and start killing people....

Maybe I'll go to Romania too, but this isn't bad either.

Zolder is not a boring track at all, it's very spectator friendly in fact but it is no competition at all for Spa-Francorschamps : the most beautifull track in the world.
