2015 Dakar Rally
The 2015 Dakar Rally will be run from January 4 to 17.
It will start in Buenos Aires, have the rest day in Iquique in Chile's Atacama, and end back in Buenos Aires. Cars and trucks will have marathon stages (the last time was 2005). |

Welcome back Peugeot Sport, with a 2008 DKR.
Quite a coup signing both Sainz & Despres, and with RedBull involved. I imagine the bean counters, after pulling the WEC programme, have allowed BIG one off events for their Motorsport. So Pikes Peak, and now Dakar. And remember, the 205 at Pikes Peak was a 'parts bin special', so relatively cheap. You would hope that the coverage would improve; the Eurosport coverage is a bit hit or miss. |

There will be three Dakar Series events in 2014:
o- DesafÃ*o Ruta 40 (Argentina) - April 5-12 o- DesafÃ*o GuaranÃ* (Paraguay) - July 20-24 o- DesafÃ*o Inca (Perú) - September 11-14 The Argentine race will run from Bariloche to San Juan. The Paraguayan race will start in Asunción, run north to Filadelfia, return to Asunción and continue south to Encarnación. |

Today begins the DesafÃ*o Ruta 40 with a 365 km loop in Bariloche. There's six stages with 1,799 km of special stages and a total 3,376 km.
Competitors include Pablo RodrÃ*guez, Javier Pizzolito, Daniel Mazzuco, Sergio Lafuente and Juan Manuel Silva. |

The way I read the fia rules a T1 vehicle for cross-country could use an engine from a T2 homologated vehicle.
The Toyota Landcruiser VDJ 200 is a T2 vehicle with the 1VD-FTV engine. I thought there was a 3 litre limit for T1 turbo diesel engines in the regulations. I think the Dakar is important enough to build Dakar specific vehicles, look at the YouTube viewer numbers for Dakar videos vs South African Off Road Championship videos. There are the FIA cross country rallies the ex-Dakar vehicles can go to afterwards or the rallies can be used to develop the vehicle for the Dakar rather than using the South African Off Road Championship.
