Kirkham 289 Daytona

Gather these are the must have for this season... A lot cheaper than a lightweight E Type and by all accounts quicker. Be interesting to see how many will be racing in the 6 Hour and other endurance races this year

A Kirkham Cobra won Tour Auto a few years ago.

Beat all the British real ones .

No problem as it was French entered!

I presume you mean Cobra Daytona Coupe, Simon. I believe that one prominent historic racer should be competing in a Kirkham built car this season. Think you'll find that a lot of the normal Cobras racing are from the same outfit, or have chassis from them.

Interestingly Octane has a story about the original Shelby prototype this month. When Peter Brock and Ken Miles first track tested it they immediately took 3.5 seconds off a normal Cobra's best lap...

Also a comment from the late Brian Lister, made years ago- 'I think I made about 55 cars, but only 80 appear to have survived.'

the Lister comment was made at a BRDC dinner about a prepper when BL introduced said member as "the only man to have made more Listers than me!"

I gather that one occassional ten tenther has been testing a Kirkham Daytona and is heard to say that its quicker than his clients usual Cobra.... but now they are getting papers why not?

Have to say I think they are very good looking cars and given that most GT40's are continuation cars as well I think it would be churlish to object...

I think Mike would agree you have to go to the back of the grid to see proper historic cars!

Another reason why Historic Racing is a nonsense.

It's not real racing you know!

It's a load of old farts doing the pretend thing so why worry if they drive pretend cars.

There is a certain significance in UKs formost historians take on historic racing

'Pipsqueak racing in pipsqueak cars'

Could be correct.

It will vanish unless someone has the balls to make sure it is a pastime where people drive cars as they were designed to be rather than the idea of 30/80 years development using new materials and methods.
