Help ID a Cooper Please!
Hi,
Im trying to ID this Cooper. I believe that it was originally a Formula 2 car that at some point has been used in Formula 3. The thing that sets this car off is the modified rear suspension, and possibly the vent just forward of the wind screen. Im fairly certain that the car was originally red, but that may not be the case. It may have spent most of its life in England up until June of 1989. From there on it has been in America, with known history. Not surprisingly the serial number is also in question. Cheers, Leo |

The T71/T72 cars were first raced in 1964, and it certainly looks like one of those models. Only three F2 chassis were constructed, against 18 F3 chassis. I'm going by Doug Nye's definitive history here, so figures should be correct.
Have you got any serial numbers which make sense? |

The Cooper Car Club "Elders" all say 1965 Formula 2 due to the body work in the rear of the car. Youll notice that just below the valve cover the sheet metal only goes half way up the side of the car. According to the CCC, This was only there to accommodate the SCA engine which was to allow access to the slanted engine.
I think the Nye Book says 8 F2 cars were made in 65 if Im correct. So my chassis number is F2-11-65. This is a continuation number until the actual one can be discovered. Leo |
